Does Myers have the balls to not play him against Bama? Will the Gators staff succumb to the pressure to win?

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Top-ranked Florida could be without one of its best pass rushers against No. 2 Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game.

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested early Tuesday and charged with driving under the influence, just days before the biggest game of the season.

"We are aware of the incident and are currently gathering more information," school spokesman Steve McClain said in a statement.

Meyer was expected to address the situation in more detail after practice Tuesday. He could suspend Dunlap for Saturday's game in Atlanta.

Dunlap, a 20-year-old junior from North Charleston, S.C., was arrested at 3:25 a.m. He was released on his own recognizance about six hours later during his initial appearance at the Alachua County Jail. Judge Mary Day Coker admonished Dunlap for underage drinking, and said he cannot possess alcohol, illegal drugs or prescription drugs that are not prescribed for him.

He was told not to drive a motor vehicle without a license, and if caught driving without a license, he would violate the terms of his release. The judge released Dunlap without bond because he has no prior adjudications and no failures to appear in court.

Wearing a jail-issued, green-and-white striped jumpsuit, Dunlap spoke softly when asked questions and always replied "Yes, ma'am," to the judge.

According to Gainesville Police spokesman Keith Kameg, an officer was dispatched to check out reports of a reckless driver near campus. When the officer spotted the car stopped at an intersection, he noticed the red 2000 Chrysler was not moving through several green lights.

The officer found Dunlap slumped over and asleep at the wheel. The officer woke up Dunlap through a cracked window, but he "would only open his eyes momentarily and then fall back asleep," Kameg said.

The officer unlocked the door, put the car in park and turned off the ignition. Dunlap got out and "was very groggy and had difficulty speaking and listening to instructions," Kameg said.

According to police, Dunlap had watery and bloodshot eyes, and there was a smell of alcohol. Dunlap failed a field sobriety test, refused a breath test and was booked.

Dunlap, the defensive MVP of the Bowl Championship Series national title game in January, has started every game this season for the defending champs. He has 35 tackles and is tied for the team lead with seven sacks.

There is pressure because of the last thing that went unsuspended (I think it was an eye gouge).

However, there's a lot of money in winning that Alabama game.  I bet everyone (including Sponsors that want the Tebow story in the title game) has something at stake.

Isn't there also a school's reputation at stake?  Taking no action says "our athletes are above the law" or "we encourage eye gouging AND drunk driving"

Seems like the university may step in here......

Man he was drunk!! Where was the fellows he was drinking with? No way he should have been behind the wheel.

That aside. I think he will sit for the game.

These Gaytor players have been getting in trouble off the field for a while now, and nothing has been done.  I seriously hope the University of Florida decides to make an example of him if Urban Meyer chooses not to.

He's not playing. There really is no decision to be made. The guy was very selfish and he's going to pay a severe price. Not only is his college career over, but his NFL stock is going to take a hit. He was projected as an Top 10 pick.

Once again you're talking out of your ass without facts. I guess the names Jamar Hornsby, Cam Newton, Avery Atkins, Jacque Rickerson, and Marcus Thomas have never come up on the list of players that Meyer has booted off the team. Meyer isn't going to kick a player off the team for a minor indiscretions, but if they are serious enough like Hornsby using a dead women's credit card, or Rickerson physical abusing a women, they're gone. Meyer isn't above discipling his players, contrary to what the media tries to portray.

And has one of those players even made an impact on the team?  Did they even play?  I never heard of any of those guys.  It's easy to boot a guy when he's a third stringer or scout team player  Let's see what Meyer does when he's faced with the decision of benching one of his key players right before the big game.

Marcus Thomas was the starting NT in 06 when Meyer was his first Championship. Cam Newton was the backup QB to Tebow, Rickerson, at worst would've been a nickle back had he kept his nose clean, and Atkins R.I.P... would've been a starting in 07, but he committed suicide. Im sorry Meyer dosen't use the We'll just have them run the steps routine as punishment.

Dunlap is over-rated anyways.  He's lazy and takes plays off.  It won't hurt the Gators that much to bench him, which is what they should do.  I doubt his draft stock takes any kind of hit from this, but it might due to NFL scouts noticing his laziness.  Remember how far Michael Johnson fell last year?  Same player, different team.

I wouldn't consider trying to gouge someones eyes out a "minor indiscretion".... but thats just me. Wink

Meyer did want to suspend Spikes for that incident.... 1 Whole half against that famous SEC powerhouse Vandy.  Cheesy  Good thing the media saw that punishment for the joke it was.
