2011 NFC East Champions!

« on: December 29, 2009, 01:17:41 pm »

Believe it or not, your Miami Dolphins can still make the playoffs, if:

Miami wins +
Jets lose +
Baltimore loses +
Houston loses +
Jacksonville loses

So you need to root for:

Miami (obviously)
Bengals
Oakland
Patriots
Cleveland

This can actually happen. Miami can beat Pittsburgh (if they get their heads out of their asses). Then the Bengals can take care of the Jets. The Patriots should take care of Houston. Oakland - at home - can take the Ravens - they have beaten Philadelphia and Cincinnati at home this season. This leaves the lowly Browns at home to face off against Jacksonville, a team that is wishy-washy at best, so you never know.

Hey, it can happen.

Yeah.  Very unlikely, but it's not impossible.  The games I see being a particular problem are Jax vs. Cleveland and Cincy vs. Jets.  I think that Cleveland just blows and Jax will be playing tough.  The fact that it's in Cleveland helps, because it will be crazy cold.  Also, I don't know if the Bengals will be playing to win or just playing not to get hurt -- so that could be a problem.

It CAN certainly happen, but if it doesn't, I'm fine with it...  Problem is that if the Patriots win, the Bengals probably won't even try, and therefore lose to the Jets, who will take that last spot from us, even though we beat them twice, thanks to the Colts laying down and playing dead.

Or, thanks to the Dolphins for getting run all over the field by both the Titans and the Texans. One of those games where the Dolphins actually show up and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Or the Bills loss. How embarrassing was that?

At this point, I don't want the Fins to make the playoffs. I want a win vs. the Steelers, but making the playoffs isn't important for me.

Like Joe said- if the Fins had showed up for BOTH halves of the Titans and Texans games, we wouldn't be having this discussion. To get into the playoffs would make a lot of people develop that "one player away" mentality.

Any time you are pegging your hope on Oakland and Cleveland winning a football game you are bound to be disapointed.

Pitt is going to smoke Miami, so its going to be irrelevant anyways.

I think you may be right.  We've been talking about what the Dolphins need other teams to do for a few weeks now, and we've been laying turds on Sunday in response.

in otherwords a 1 in 32 chance of making the playoffs, approximately 3.5%.  Pretty upsetting considering wins over any of the following: San Diego, New Orleans, the first Patriot game, Buffalo Tennessee or Houston would probably have been enough to get us in.

I am rooting for the Dolphins to make the playoffs.  (it means the Jets and Steelers didn't)
