There are a lot of myths about how unemployment numbers are calculated.

From http://www.bls.gov/cps/cps_htgm.htm :

Who is counted as unemployed?

Persons are classified as unemployed if they do not have a job, have actively looked for work in the prior 4 weeks, and are currently available for work. Actively looking for work may consist of any of the following activities:

    * Contacting:
          o An employer directly or having a job interview
          o A public or private employment agency
          o Friends or relatives
          o A school or university employment center
    * Sending out resumes or filling out applications
    * Placing or answering advertisements
    * Checking union or professional registers
    * Some other means of active job search

Thanks guys! She has filed so we will see where that goes. It obviously never hurts to try. the bad news is even if wshe gets it it's pretty minimal in comparison but everything helps.

My wife is a Mortgage Underwriter.  She is the person who approves the loan. It's her butt on the line to verify all info and guidlines are met.

She doesn't actually work for the banks that she works in but is contracted from the M.I. company. Every loan she underwrites her company get the M.I. on.  In this market where even the best credit people are defaulting it's a rough business. Everyone is looking for scapegoats and she, as well as her coworkers, are under constant attack from both the bank and the MI companies. Neither wants to be responsible for the default so she gets caught in the middle with numerous audits.  It's actually pretty crazy and I think that mentally the time away is doing her some good. Unfortunately the reality of the financial situation isn't helping!! :-)
