Geez, this team must really want to play golf this October instead of defending their title. Mariano has given up runs in 4 of his last 6 appearances, and that includes 3 blown saves and probably 2 losses if Boston holds on.

The Yankees have lost 5 in a row and 14 of their last 20. They still have a 95% chance of the Wild Card, but what is the point of even making the playoffs if you are going to play like this?

i love how all the sox homers here at ESPN are talking about not IF, but that the red sox are actually catching the yanks for the wild card.  they are convinced!  "this team has heart", etc

Have to trade him while they still can. He will probably earn like $12 Million in arbitration and Bard is better. Plus, Paps is gonna be 30. He has been extremely valuable to Boston, but it's time to trade him for prospects to a team that overvalues closers. If K-Rod's contract is voided, there is a good trading partner. They have Theo's favorite kind of GM to trade with: stupid.
