Turns out that Tressel knew about the players selling awards back in April, and he didn't alert the University.  His contract clearly states that he must notify the university of any violation or possible violation (his contract has "any" underlined).

I can't see him getting fired for this, but I guess it could lead to further NCAA punishment if they find out he knew about this much earlier and failed to report it.  There is a press conference scheduled this evening with Tressel, the AD and university president .

Tressel admits he knew about the violations and failed to report them.  Ohio State has suspended him for 2 games and fined him 250K.  The suspension seems trivial.  I wonder if the NCAA will have more to say about this.   They can't be happy that they let the players involved play in the Sugar Bowl........all based on Ohio State coming clean as soon as they found out.  Given all the criticism that the NCAA got over that decision, maybe they bring down the hammer now.

I have nothing against Tressel at all...nothing but respect for the guy as a football coach. That said, this should help keep some of the more obnoxious Buckeyes fans a little more humble for a short time at least...so at least something good comes out of it.

If you read a bit about how he came to "know", I think that's a major mitigating circumstance. I completely understand why he didn't go to the school or NCAA with it.
