I've never been on a cruise,so I don't know (I get motion sick pretty easy),the closest thing I've been to a cruise was a boat ride to Catalina island when I lived in California.(I got sick the whole way home)

I'm really a home body,traveling isn't a big desire for me...

Dream Vacations (only in my wildest dreams, hit the lottery, champagne wishes and caviar dreams  Cheesy)
1.) Italy -somewhere off the beaten path, maybe the coliseum
2) Australia - I want to see the Great Barrier reef, and sharks, and fish I had in my aquarium.Kangaroos, and stuff like that...
3.) Ireland - I wanna see the beauty of it,castle,and a Pub...
4.) Japan - Bright lights,big city,fish markets,watch Japanese game shows...(What can I say I'm an odd ball!  Grin)

Attainable dreams (with my Mickey D's type salary, and job skills  Grin)
1.) Dolphins game,in Miami
2.) Cubs Game ,Wrigley Field
3.) Myrtles Plantation,St. Francisville Louisiana - I'm not sure if I want to spend a night there, but definitely a few hours there
4.) The Stanley Hotel ,Estes park Colorado - Yeah I do want to spend the night.
5.) Rv Trip to Alaska.

My favorite vacations were camping with my Mom and step Dad,and step sister. The first one wasn't very memorable, but my step sister and I, did get our own tent after that trip.Mom and Dad Snored so loud,we thought they'd attract bears. The trip we arrived during severe weather, and fished when the white bass were running was close to my favorite one....

Modified to add...I have to say,I'm not great in crowds, and a little claustrophobic...So some of those places are also kind of personal achievements also.

My best vacation was a week in Italy.  I had recently been through a break-up and went to a friend's wedding by myself.  It was a great, cleansing experience that sort of represented a new start in my life.  ...maybe the best week of my life.

I think you're missing the point of a cruise. The ship IS a big part of the vacation. Just sit back and enjoy doing nothing but sitting by the pool, working on your tan and on your drink. That IS the vacation.

I'm not missing it. It is being cooped up on a ship from my perspective. My vacation is the destination and what goes on there.

Hey Lil B, I get sea sick too.  But the bigger the ship, the less you notice the movements (which cause the sea sickness).  So, when I went snorkling/fishing in the keys on a small boat, I got sea sick.  In the 3 cruises that I have ever been on, I didn't even have the slightest feeling...  Therefore, you may want to give it a try at least once in your lifetime :-)

That is the equivalent of saying I wouldn't go to a huge resort because "I would feel cooped up".  The ships are freaking huge.

I get that. it doesn't make me feel different though. I can leave the resort if I want. I could also leave the ship, but I don't want to swim the ocean so I am indeed cooped up.

I can't imagine wanting to leave the ship. They are seriously floating cities now.

I disagree with that 110% Pappy - I am not a beach girl. I'm not a sit around and work on my tan girl. We've done cruises which have included excursions to Mayan ruins, snorkeling, swimming with rays after driving a speed boat to get there etc. Ship days, we do trivia and games, eat, take pictures, walk around, enjoy time together. I think the closest we've come to sitting by the pool working on a tan was when we cruised on Ruby Princess and spent our first day at sea (A Sunday in November) watching football on the giant screen over the pool.
I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to point out. I wasn't suggesting that sitting by the pool is the only thing to do on a cruise, I was just pointing out one of the activities that can be done on the ship itself. The excursions are wonderful, but that doesn't mean that your time on the ship is wasted.  There's plenty to do on the ship besides sit by the pool.  You can gamble, take in a show, enjoy a meal, play bingo or other assorted games, check out a sports bar, play some video games, sit in a jacuzzi, enjoy a drink or just watch the ocean go by. And if that don't grab you, enjoy a little quiet time with your spouse in your room and let the motion of the ocean take over. Smiley

My best vacation was my honeymoon in Jamaica & not just because it was my honeymoon.  We saw a lot of the country.  It's beautiful there.  Puerto Vallararta, Mexico was a close second.

My, or our I should say, dream vacation is to visit Australia and New Zealand.

I have only been on 1 cruise and I loved it.

My best vacation by far was my Cruise to Alaska. First it's only April and we have already cracked the 100 degree mark so typically I try to vacation in cooler joints. Which brings me to my first reason I loved Alaska. I left here in July and it was 117 that day. When I got to Alaska it was 65 and I enjoyed every minute of it. Being an outdoors type of guy this was my gig all the way around. The scenery I could sit and watch for hours the excursions were a blast and the air up there is like nothing else. We plan on going back and doing a 3 day trek through Denali National Park and another cruise. I also am planning to do some King Salmon fishing while there this time. Not to mention my wife and I had a blast on the ship together as well. We spent a lot of time in the Casino and hanging out with various people in the many bars and in the outside deck areas.

I have been to quite a few places but these are the ones I am hoping to do in the next ten years.

New York City
Chicago
Miami
Hawaii
Boston
New Orleans for Mardi Gras - I have been there once but not for Mardi Gras and we are planning on going in 2012.

You will notice that these are mostly Eastern US areas as there is not a whole lot of the West that I have not covered yet. I have been to Cleveland and Charlotte, NC but that is about it on my Eastern US journeys. I did stay 1 night in St. Louis as well on my travels but I did not get to visit the city much.
