Well folks, as most people predicted, the Phins are 0-2. Not only 0-2, but winless at home as they start their 3-game road trip.
This team, or should I should say organization, is in disarray, from the top to the bottom. Clearly, years of poor drafting, poor front office moves and poor coaching & execution, has lead us to where we are today. This team has so many problems, that to call out one area in particular is not fair.
I have rooted for this team for 35 years since I was a boy and believe I have never seen this team so far from a SB victory or even getting to the championship.
right now, this team is destined for a 4-12, maybe 6-10 season (crosses fingers). One week, the OFF is playing high on the hog and the DEF is looking dazed & confused. The next week, the OFF is choking on it in the Red Zone (or should I say 10 yd or less) and the DEF is playing hard and decent.
They can't put a complete game together and have struggled to do so or the last 3 seasons. The 2008 season is a mirage. the 11-5 was a combination of players playing over their heads, believing they could do it and a piss poor schedule. since that time, the team is a combine 14-20 and as the announcers said tonite, no playoff win the last 10 years. wow. read that aloud, no playoff win in the last 10 years
I think only BUF, HOU, CLE, DET and SF have not won a playoff game. that's the company we keep.
and better yet, those teams right now are heading in a better direction than MIA. maybe SF is on our level, but everyone else? they're better. better coached, better organized. you name it.
I think the best thing for this organization is to hope for a miracle and that the owner cleans house, from the top to the bottom.
I believe there are really good, even some great players on the team. but they are being lead by incompetent leaders. Tony Sparano was an OFF line coach at DAL. if that is his strong point, why don't we have a STRONG OFF line? we've got 1 stud, Jake Long and possible an up and comer with Pouncey. that's it. the line has been hodge podge of fillers and loafers. I was glad to see Vernon Carey go down tonite, he's a waste. he was picked because he came from the U, and only that.
I'm just frustrated with the whole team and organization. the stands were half-filled, the fans didn't come alive until it was 16-10 and even then we kicked a FG to make it a 3-pt game.
I know the fans want a winner, I do too, but they have to show up and show their enthusiasm better than we have been doing. this game is a like a neutral field for most teams, and when our rivals come to town (NYJ & NE), hell it's like a 50/50 split and they out-cheer MIA fans.
I will continue to be a fan, but I do believe they need to make whole-sale changes in the next 5-6 months to change the direction of this franchise. we are headed down the same path as we were last year. I hope they can find a young, energetic assistant coach somewhere that has some foresight and plan to coach this team back to prominence.
Best of luck for the rest of the season. GO PHINS!!!!!!
