I'm surprised that this had been up for 5 hours already and JTex hasn't had something to say

Funny that you should mention this.  Just last week I bored one evening and popped in a dvd from NFL films about the Dolphins 1972 season.  I was 8 then and can still recite just about everyone on the roster from that season.  What a different game it was back then.  All about "team" and not individualism.  The best part of that film is where Csonka talks about the time that he got flagged for unneccessary roughness on the guy trying to tackle him.  LOL   His story about Shula's reaction to that play is priceless.   A know a lot of you guys aren't big on the "old days" of the team, but this is a really great dvd that all Dolphin fans should see.

2011 NFC East Champions!

« Reply #3 on: December 14, 2011, 10:00:13 am »

^ Most weren't even alive in 1972 to be able to appreciate it.

Look guys, it's been 40 years (Forty) since the Dolphins won a Championship. It's been 11 years since a playoff victory. It's been 12 years since a road playoff victory. It's been 20 years since the team has appeared in the AFC championship game. It's also been 20 years since the Dolphins had a first-round bye. From 2001 - 2011, the team is 79-94 with one AFC East Division win, two playoff appearances (losses in both). The Dolphins have not scored 10 or more points in their last 3 playoff games (dating back to the loss at Oakland in 2000).

The last thing the Dolphins need is to hire "The Next Don Shula". F Don Shula. That mentality / philosophy will not work in today's NFL. The Dolphins don't need to continue to re-live the "Glory Days" of the early 70's. In fact, the team doesn't need to keep wearing it's same colors and logo on the side of their helmets (the Dolphins logo is old, outdated, uninspiring and unintimidating - seriously. Same can be said for their aqua & orange color scheme. Faded, old, and lazy. It's the worst logo + color combination in the NFL).

This team needs a complete reboot on all levels from top to bottom - beyond a head coach and a GM. They need a new look, a new image, a new personality / identity. They can't continue to live and be inspired by something that happened 40 years ago. That has to be buried in the past once and for all. Even the team mascot is weak (So Dolphins are the most intelligent mammals on the planet. Great. Who's scared by that?)

The Dolphins to me are trying to be like the Packers in terms of nostalgia and legacy. Unlike Miami, Green Bay knows how to do that, so it works well and plays well to their advantage. Miami - not so much.

You don't think the JJ logo is intimidating? That fish is a bad mofo. Logo & color schemes, LOL. Winning fixes everything.

I'm with JTex on this, the Dolphins need a kick a$$, intimidating color/logo scheme.  Something like the plain blue unis worn by the Giants.

So we're going to judge a team based on their colors and logo?  Glad to know you have the same mentality as Women do

There's nothing wrong with the uniforms other than we need to go retro with them.  Leave the logo alone on the helmet, move the numbers onto the sleeves, 5 stripes on the sleeves not 3 and then fix the stripes on the pants.

I like the Orange jerseys and when they wore the all green uni's a few yrs ago!  If there was any other change I would like to see the blue jerseys with the orange numbers that they sold to fans.. I think those were kick ass!

I'm with you Cathal seeing that NY or Giants on the side of those blue helmets really intimidated me!  Roll Eyes
