My boss and I were talking about VH1 count down of the best songs of the 2000's,I guess his wife watched a couple of hours of this. Then hit Amazon, and Itunes.I joked with him,I saw it was on watched about 15 minutes of an episode.I knew a couple of songs, but was lost and miles away from the nearest exit on most of them, I'd never heard the songs...

So,How ever you want to do it,one from each year, all from one year,Country,Rap,Rock,Pop....

What are your Top 10 Songs since the year 2000?

I had to look up the top 100 list to see what made it. There are some that I enjoyed, but I am pretty sure that at least half of the list I would include isn't on there because it focuses in what is not really my genre of music (I enjoy listening to Empire State of Mind but I don't think it would make my top 10 list).

Also, I am really mostly listening to local artists here in my free time. When I play the jukebox it tends to be songs that are not current right now anyway. I don't think you guys would get my frame of reference for most of my list.

This is hard. I want to jump in, but I don't even really know where to start. I checked out the VH1 list and it's ok, but definitely leans way to mainstream for my taste. Some artists that I would include:

The Strokes (they released what I consider a perfect album)
Arcade Fire
Animal Collective
LCD Soundsystem
Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Karen O is my dream girl!)
Bjork

I felt stupid that I didn't google the VH1 list before, I don't think it helped really...

95% of the music I listen to is from before 2000,so I found this to be incredibally tedious..I went through the music on my hard drive, then made sure it came out
after 2000....So my list is very open to mocking and ridicule...

In no particular order...and could change tommorrow...See Already changed Cheesy
The Black keys- Howlin for you. Craig Morgan -This aint Nothin
Kenny Chesney - When the Sun goes down
Bon Jovi - Who Says You Can't Go Home
Creed - My Scarifice
Default - All is forgiven
Lifehouse -Hanging by a moment
Liz Phair - My Favorite underwear
Matchbox twenty -unwell
Planet Melvin - Twist and Crawl
The apples in Stereo - energy
Toby Keith -Beer for my Horses

I agree with Buddhagirl.  Moreover, I was 13 in the year 2000.  I've developed too much musical passions since that time to limit it to a top 10 list of songs.  I'm more of an album guy here are some standout's over the last decade:

2000 - "Hybrid Theory" by Linkin Park

2001 - "Morning View" by Incubus

2002 - "The Second Stage Turbine Blade" by Coheed and Cambria

2003 - "Thickfreakness" by The Black Keys

2004 - "A Crow Left Of The Murder" by Incubus

2005 -  "Frances the Mute" by The Mars Volta

2006 - "Blood Mountain"  by Mastodon

2007 -  "Planet of Ice" by Minus The Bear

2008 - "Meanest of Times" by Dropkick Murphys

2009  - "Blue Record" by Baroness

2010 - "Have You Seen My Prefrontal Cortex?" by A Great Big Pile Of Leaves

2011 - "In the Mountain in the Cloud" by Portugal. The Man

2012 -  "Harmonicraft" by Torche

Yeah, I'm all over the place with genres.  I'm weird, I know..just love music lol

Geez I'm getting old, I don't even recognize most of the songs/artists on these lists.  I think the "newest" groups I have liked are probably John Mayer and Dave Matthews.  I listen mostly to the Stones, Who, Dead, AC/DC, Police, James Taylor, Etc.

Nothing wrong with that at all.   I'm 25 and I'm more than likely listening to The Doors, GD, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, CCR, Sabbath, and so on at any given moment.  Sure you find gems every once in a while in current music, but like the old cliche, my parents music is 100 times better than my music.
