Ireland, Philbin, and co. must be very confident that this team will make the playoffs in 2013.

Because if they don't, they will all be searching for work.

With the way they are making decisions, I don't think so. I think this season is a free pass. Next year they will be judged on improvement and that may or may not be the playoffs. Just like the old days ... I think the third year will be the key.

To me it seems like they are making long term decisions and will not compromise to win a few extra right now. That's a good thing in my book.

Vontae Davis is an incredibly frustrating player to watch -- not unlike Sean Smith, btw -- because he shows flashes of brilliance, but can't seem to consistently perform at a high level. It seems like we've seen more inconsistency and less brilliance from him this preseason... he could still turn it around and become a great player, but I think the trade makes a lot of sense.

Despite the most recent depth chart, though, I don't believe Marshall is as good as Vontae. Marshall looked pretty bad against the Falcons and that worries me.

States how I feel abut Vontae Davis, but much better worded than I could do...I like what we got for Davis,I think if we waited any longer,we'd gotten less. With the first cut to 75 today, and the cut down to 53 coming. There is time to pick up someone who can help us,which may hurt the first game or two,but work well in a few weeks...

Ireland is doing a great job of buying high and selling low.

You think two pick for Vontae is low? Like Dave said, the guy did not even appear to be a starter this season.

Armando reporting that the Colts initial offer to Miami was ONLY a 6th round pick. Waited a day then offered ONLY a 5th round pick.  Ireland said he wasn't interested in moving him. Indy waited a few days then offered a 3rd.  That got Ireland's attention and Jeff worked him up to a 2nd/6th deal.

Look, you listen and read stuff this morning and you would have thought Vontae Davis was Darrell Green or Deion Sanders, jesus christ its amazing. It's Vontae F'n Davis a guy who showed up drunk last year to a practice. The guy who came in out of shape. The funny part is search online for any Indy sports radio show or go to any Colts message board and they are MORE PISSED than Dolphins fans are that they gave up a 2nd round draft pick (probably a high one) for this guy. And they are gonna have to resign him soon and pay him big bucks to boot! If they don't the trade looks even worse for Indy!

I can't understand why Dolphins fans would be pissed about this trade.  2nd round picks aren't given out like Snickers on Halloween.

the phrase "self awareness" used by the coaches on Hard Knocks in regards to Vontae is the best way to describe him. He doesn't see the big picture. Bathroom breaks in the middle of practice. Showing up out of shape and joking about it. Whether getting in a fight in the Carolina game and drawing a flag. Just throwing a WR to the ground vs Atlanta, and drawing a flag. THEN, after he is told he is traded, 2 seconds into the conversation he wants to call his grandmother right then and there! Not realizing he is in the middle of an important conversation and he should at least hear what happened and why. Lack of self awareness!

ESPN was mocking him today for wanting to call his grandma. Which I get why, its a cheap easy joke which ESPN will always take the cheap and easy joke. And Vontae is not mature and should have handled the situation differently and not asked to call his grandma in the middle of a meeting. That shows a lack of awareness and maturity. But his grandmother is the center of his universe which is sweet and all and I think ESPN should have laid off a bit. I mean they really needed to mock the guy for that? They got nothing better to talk about or cover.

Attack the guy for his play, attack him for being a 1st round bust, attack him for other things, don't essentially call him a "mamma's boy and point and laugh at him which is what they did". I thought that was low-rent for a company that holds themselves up to such a high standard and is always patting themselves on the back.

Almost as bad as when they picked on the Buffalo Bills rookie a year or two back with a stutter and he couldn't get through his first NFL interview without issues. Just low rent.

I disagree with you on the trade. But I totally agree with you here. Sometimes the 4 letter network just can't help thethemselves.
