I decided to start this thread after reading harsh criticism of the DC and some being frustrated by the play of the secondary.

IMO, like someone else said, Coyle just does not have the talent to put a pass stopping D on the field. At this point the best we can hope for is an above average pass rush and the guys in the secondary to continue to get better.

I never claimed to be a secondary expert, but this is what I see.

CORNERBACKS:

Sean Smith: Solid and getting better.

Richard Marshall: No way did Marshall deserve 5 mil a year for 3 yrs. Smells like desperation to me

Nolan Carroll: Needs to be cut. Really tired of seeing him from the back chasing a WR down field.

Others: No info

SAFETIES:

Reshad Jones: Best of the bunch. Continues to get better

Jimmy Wilson: Jury still out. Has made some mistakes. Ask me in 6-8 weeks. Coyle's biggest challenge.

Chris Clemons: See Nolan Carroll

Others: No info.

Not a whole lot there, is there? For the most part, chicken s&^t

Here is the current roster..

Completely agree. For two seasons now, every team that plays Miami knows the recipe to beat them- hang around until the 4th quarter, then pass, pass, pass, and win. After six blown leads last year mostly on the shoulders of the secondary, it's happened in 2 out of 4 games already this season. Even with the turnovers from Moore last year and Tannehill this year, if the D could stop a receiver, they'd have won more games. The upside is that Miami will have a top 10 pick again this year and can either draft a Dee Miller or Eric Reid, or trade for a better player. -EK

Thanks, great points!

To me it is like the perfect friggin storm. The NFL change the rules to favor the passing game from the QB to the pass interference rules, and the Fins weakest link is the secondary. Recipe for disaster!

Nolan Carroll has explosive speed yet he's always trailing the receivers he covers... I can't understand that.  He should be able to close like a Darrelle  Revis... not that he has the skills or talent but, he has that kind of speed.  I just don't get him getting beat so much...

Wow, it almost sounds like your not blaming Tannehill for the losses this year.

I have said more times than I can count that wins and losses are not on the shoulders of one person. EVER. RT contributed heavily with his turnovers to the losses, but I've said for years now that if the defense could stop anybody when it counted- in the secondary, and in the 4th quarter- that the impact of any turnovers would be marginalized. -EK

if you ask me, Smith and Jones are the only 2 worth keeping.  Marshall would be fine as a nickel corner.  Wilson is a 7th round pick project, Carroll is crap.  I don't hate Clemons as much as most people do, though.

Jones has turned into a very good safety. Impact player actually. HUGE upgrade over Bell.  Smith has improved alot since last year. Not an elite CB by any means but  he is good now. Something has finally clicked!

Rest of the secondary needs work but hey Rome wasn't built in a day and we have known this since April.

That is one expensive nickel!!! 15 mil for 3 yrs.?? WOW! Bad move IMO.

Clemons has this year to turn on the light. Agree, he has slightly improved and doesn't suck quite as much this year (so far) as last year. How Carroll got in the NFL is a friggin mystery to me. He can't cover and can't tackle.

His speed alone got him into the NFL... he wasn't much of a CB at Maryland but had blazing speed.

Then why not sign Usain Bolt? lol

Seriously, I was hoping they would get a shot at Jeff Demps from UF. He chose track over football in his senior year, but came back to football. The Pats signed him.

I just saw on the news ticker that Marshall will be out for tomorrow's game and Carroll gets his first ever NFL start.

Marshall has been bad. Really bad. And Carroll will probably be about the same... but where does this leave is in nickel and dime formations? Maybe I'll finally find out who the heck RJ Stanford is :/
