I really like where the coaches have our players' heads. When Randy Starks says we only have to prove something to ourselves and no one is running around "me"ing things it shows they have a team first attitude. That's one of the biggest things to keep us in the games when things aren't going well. I hope that continues once we lose a game.

DAVIE – Dolphins coach Joe Philbin, whose sense of humor is as dry as a rice cake, isn’t a comedian. We know that.

But Philbin delivered a true head-scratcher – we’re still trying to find the punchline -- on Wednesday after being asked about how loud it gets at the Superdome.

“I think it can be tough when the guys really get it rolling there,” he began. “To give you guys a little history I have to make a joke. My career started at Tulane University, and I think we averaged about 15,000 fans a game there.”

 Slight pause.

“But it can be very loud, yeah, it can be very loud,” he continued. “I think it can be an advantage, those domed stadiums. If you’re not playing well and they get the momentum going it can get tough to get out of that. We really feel it’s important for us to get off to a good start.”

One reporter (heckler) blurted out, “What’s the joke?”

“My history,” Philbin said before saving himself with a self-deprecating gem.

“You guys should have known some of my history, you should have looked at my background, for God’s sake; I have a master’s degree from there. I’m sure you could tell.”

Flatulence apparently isn’t a propellant

In South Florida, people eat black beans and rice. In New Orleans, they eat red beans and rice.

But wide receiver Mike Wallace, a native of New Orleans, won’t be eating red beans for lunch on Monday before the Dolphins play the Saints.

“You know what red beans do to you, so I don’t know if that’s a good thing for me to eat,” he said. “I’m going to keep it light. I have to be running real fast on Monday night.”

Something to prove

Defensive tackle Randy Starks said the Dolphins have something to prove to themselves, but not anyone else.

“I think if we prove things to ourselves, everything else will take care of itself,” he said. “I think as long as we take care of business, keep stacking up wins, I mean, you can’t deny us if our record is good.”

No cockiness in this lockerroom

You can’t find a single Dolphins player sticking his chest out or patting himself on the back for the team’s 3-0 start. Not one. Not even privately. I find that a little bit amazing.

Dolphins coaches and fans should be pleased about the players’ attitude.

Philbin wants big-play running game

Running backs Lamar Miller (134 yards rushing) and Daniel Thomas (65 yards) are off to a slow start. The Dolphins are 28th in rushing offense (211 yards) and 26th in yards per carry (3.2).

Philbin isn’t asking for 130 yards per game or 4.8 yards per carry. He wants more plays such as Miller’s 49-yard run against Atlanta.

“I would like to have a little more consistency in terms of the explosive (plays),” Philbin said. “(I’d like it) if we can get two to three a game every single game as opposed to none against Cleveland, two against Indy and one here.”

Getting offended by something you see on the internet is like choosing to step in dog shite instead of walking around it.

All you have to do is, look at how they finished all three games this year. They actually FINISH! So, I like where he has their heads too.
