In 2012 Incognito was not only a Pro-Bowler but was given the Good Guy Award by the Pro Football Writers Association. There is no legal or moral reason NOT to give this guy a leadership position on a football team.

Not to mention he was VOTED into a leadership position by HIS TEAMMATES.  Including Jonathan Martin (who voted for Richie to be in leadership council).

I presume you would have the same opinion about, say, Michael Vick?

Just wondering how far let-bygones-be-bygones extends.

I have no problems with Vick. I also think Ray Lewis is a different person today than when he came into the league. I'm a Christian who was very much changed so I have no problem seeing how people can change or be forgiven. Unlike most of us those guys had their dirty laundry aired but many more of us have "publicly" gotten away with things that are possibly worse.

In 2012 Incognito was not only a Pro-Bowler but was given the Good Guy Award by the Pro Football Writers Association.
1) The PFWA Good Guy Award is given to "a NFL player for his qualities and professional style in helping pro football writers do their jobs."  That's not exactly a huge character endorsement.

2) What is your source for the claim that Incognito won this award?  This page listed the winners as follows:

2005 – Jerome Bettis (Pittsburgh Steelers); 2006 – Tiki Barber (New York Giants); 2007 – LaDainian Tomlinson (San Diego Chargers); 2008 – Brett Favre (Green Bay Packers); 2009 – Kurt Warner (Arizona Cardinals); 2010 – Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints); 2011 – Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers); 2012 – Tim Tebow (Denver Broncos); 2013 – Tony Gonzalez (Atlanta Falcons)

I had to look but it looks like he split it with your boy Reggie Bush. Apparently they give it to a player in each NFL city.

Excellent post. It just seems like Richie is a very loud mouth guy that acts like a dick on paper, but everyone likes. I can relate, I am the same way. I am sure we have all said horrible things to friends that were meant as jokes but would seem monstrous if they were printed in a newspaper out of context.

The fact that no one is siding with Martin or even wants him back compared to unanimous praise for Incognito says all that I need to know. Martin's career is over. I hope Richie's isn't.

Martin has played his last down in the NFL after reading that letter his lawyer released tonight. No locker-room will ever accept him. The Ted Wells investigation will clear a lot of this up. To me this story seems to be heading towards Martin having some "social anxiety" Ricky Williams type issues and he was a bad fit in an NFL locker-room. And a lot of mountains being made out of molehills because of that. And with lawyers involved a lot of stories will be  twisted and have a spin put on them  for the upcoming lawsuit. But I trust Wells and think he will get us the real story.

Will there be a fall guy or two in Miami....yes. I think Jim Turner is done. Now he was probably getting fired anyway cause the o-line sucks on the field. This just makes it impossible for him to return. This is his unit and its blown up over this. And I think Ireland could be the other. The "he should have punched him" comment might be the one thing that gets him canned. Just because on the surface it sounds so bad and looks so bad...that Ross could give Ireland's head to Goodell and please the masses that something was done to change the culture in Miami.

That's how I see it as of today. I am sure more info will come out tomorrow and I will change my opinion some...lol

So he won half of the award that is given out to a Dolphins player every year... for helping reporters do their jobs.

Damning with faint praise.  Did he also receive a Thank You note from Goodwill for donating used clothes?

Incognito flew to California today to meet with lawyers and his agents. Rumors are out there that the Fins might look to settle with Martin and end this story (in regards to Martin at least, not with the league investigation) as soon as possible. Martin looking for payment of his contract in full and his full release most likely.

A settlement would be the smartest thing to do for the Dolphins because that would, in effect, silence Jonathan Martin.

I think he's a dirty player who's a jerk on and off the field, and I was against Miami signing Incognito in the first place.

That being said, for this to be the straw that breaks the camel's back just ain't right.  Don't cut Incognito for being a douchebag when he was essentially ordered to be a douchebag by the coaches.
