Scoring.  As of this week Miami is the only NFL team to have NOT scored in excess of 28 pts in a game.  This is a recurring problem year after year.

They scored 34 today.   I would modify this to say scoring more in the second half.  One of the reasons Miami blew so many leads this year is that the offense didn't score any points or only got a field goal or two after halftime.

Also to go along with that, not allowing scores on the first possession after halftime.  Pitt scored on their first second half drive today.  Also the Baltimore and New England games come to mind.

Also need to keep improving on the offensive line and the defensive line needs to play better in the middle.  Especially against the run.  We can rush the passer as well as anybody but there are times again like on Pittsburgh's first possession where teams hand off against us and just get too many yards especially on first down.

Philbin needs to improve.

The end of the first half and the end of the second half were just beyond awful.

Does he do any research at all? To attempt a 52 yard fg into that end of Heinz field, in the snow was absolutely awful.  Sturgis could have kicked it 100 times and not made it once.  I just don't believe he is the coach that can take the team to the next level.

Say what you want but he has a huge calming and positive effect on this team. He has them buying into the system and he has them the least penalized team in the league.   In a season when everything could and probably should have completely blown up he has them in serious playoff contention. That isn't an accident just like it wasn't an accident when "out of touch" Tom Coughlin won two Super Bowls.

I'm not sure you can ask for much more from Philbin, actually, given the sad lack of talent on the team.  Grin -EK

A small list of basic things that Miami needs to improve on:

* Running with the football
* Passing the football
* Offensive play-calling
* Blocking defenders
* Tackling opposing ball carriers
* Covering opposing receivers
* Special teams

A smaller list of things that Miami is just fine at:

* Logo design

Aw shit I forgot about the goddamn logo.  Actually the logo I can live with but do we have to have "Miami" written across everybody's ass?
