Is the coach really that important to the team?

I can't believe what I saw today. 

Campbell really seemed to have the team well prepared.

The defense was playing like it was supposed to play when they signed Suh.

The offense looked good too.

Coaching is important.

Talent is important.

When you have a coach who stands there with his mouth open, who needs note cards to run a post game locker room speech and who refuses to listen to his players...

...and then you get a high energy guy who can relate to the players and believes in toughness and aggression...

You can see the difference.

It was glorious to watch yesterday, truly it was.  I haven't felt that way after a MIA win in some time, possibly back to the NE win in week 1 of last year.

Coaching makes a difference in this league.  If the guys you are leading, respect the guy in charge, well you get some really good effort on their part.

Now, it's only one game, something to build on.  Next up is the Texans, a team MIA has never beaten, which is crazy as it sounds. What are they, 0-5 or 0-6?  That's nuts.

Anyways, got a 2-4 HOU team has beaten a bad TB team and a so-so JAX team.  You need to come out and give the effort as you did against TEN.  You win that, you get to .500 and alot of games left in the season.  We'll see.

I really liked the play calling yesterday, even the stuff that didn't work. Before yesterday, we didn't run on first down... basically ever. It was just way, way too predictable. Run a lot on first and your play-action suddenly works. Your misdirects work.

The lack of running was obvious, but when you try to throw on EVERY first down and can't protect your quarterback, that makes for a lot of 2nd and 10 where the play book just isn't as open as it is on 2nd and 5.

Yep.  And because they passed it almost exclusively on first down, it makes it much harder to run on 2nd.

When your players give up due to coaching, it makes all the difference in the world. Doesn't even have to be the best, just get them to play knowing that you aren't total idiots running a bland offense and defense.

I saw an interesting stat this morning and I guess this is as good a place to put it as any. After last weeks win the Dolphins are 6-5 under Interim Head coaches. Considering DC gets more games than we previously had played under IHCs it will be interesting to see where this stat ends up.

Is that a common record for interim coaches or do we just play better for them?

New and interim coaches have advantages ( & disadvantages) the obvious disadvantage is lack of experience.

But there are two adv.  1. New level of excitement.  2. Harder for opposing team to prepare.  What is Belicheck's favorite play on 3rd and 5 from 50, is something a good coach knows before playing NEP.  What is Campbell's nobody knows.
