Two years ago people would have given up half our team for him. Now we complain because he is horrible or overated in some's opinion.  ::)  Personally I feel we got a steal as well as a great player.  I have to wonder if Saban't interest in Brees was a ploy to drive down Minnesota's price? A second rounder is quite a great deal for any starter!

I am hoping that bringing in Culpepper is also going to cause more Dolphins related events around Orlando.

Yes and it just got a lot better!!

That is waayyy cool !!! I hadn't thought of that but just imagine what is going to happen to the NFL's phones now? They thought they caught a lot of crap about the Jags pushing the Dolphins off of tv ... well that bandwagon just got much larger in Central Florida!!!  Grin

Uhh, what?  Surely you aren't arguing that Brees has more talent/potential than Culpepper?

Read the parent post! We were talking about the seriousness of the relative INJURIES, not about their talent.

Best case for Culpepper is that he is 100% by the end of the season. Best case for Brees is that he is 100% by opening day kickoff.

In his career, Culpepper has posted a career passer rating of 91.5, including a single-season best of 110.9. His career mark ranks fifth all-time in NFL history while his season figure is fourth:

CAREER PASSER RATING
1. Steve Young (1985-99) - 96.8
2. Kurt Warner (1999-05) - 94.1
3. Peyton Manning (1998-05) - 93.5
4. Joe Montana (1979-94) - 92.3
5. Daunte Culpepper (1999-05) - 91.5

SINGLE-SEASON PASSER RATING
1. Peyton Manning, Ind. (2004) - 121.1
2. Steve Young, S.F. (1994) - 112.8
3. Joe Montana, S.F. (1989) - 112.4
4. Daunte Culpepper, Minn. (2004) - 110.9
5. Milt Plum, Cleve. (1960) - 110.4

I know I'm a little late joining in, but better late than never.

I'm not happy with this move.  Since Miami gave up a second round pick, I think it's safe to assume that this isn't a short term solution and the plan is to have Culpepper as the Dolphin QB for a number of years.

There's some great analysis already in the thread, so I'm not going to rehash the pro's and con's; but I so want to say that my negative opinion of Culpepper is based on his performance last year before the injury and the dramatic improvement the Vikings made when he was gone.  I know his career numbers are good, but I can't ignore his horrific 2005 season.  It's also my perception that he makes a lot of mistakes with the ball, both interceptions and fumbles.

Now that he's here, I hope for the best.

I'm really surprised by some of the stuff I just read in this thread.  For starters, Culpepper is far superior to little 6'0" Brees.  His Pro Bowl days are over without Gates and LT and the Chargers system.  What a boneheaded decision to go to NFL hell.

Culpepper has only been playing in the NFL since 2000 and has been in 3 Pro Bowls already.  I can't name one RB he has had either.  Credit Randy Moss if you like, but I think that's a cheap cop out for people who don't like him for whatever reason.  Culpepper threw for 4700+ yards in 2004 and close to 4000 of those were NOT to Moss.  The kid has game, no doubt.  He is a great QB on his way to being an elite QB if he can stay healthy.

This is the biggest signing since Dan Marino was drafted.  Bigger than Ricky what's his name even.  How any Dolphins fan can not get what just happened is beyond me.  The only explaination I can come up with is that they hibernated during the Jay, AJ, and Gus years.

Amen, brother.  A QB with a bad wheel is way better than one with a busted arm.  Culpepper's put up great numbers on teams with no defense, no running back, and ONE receiver / playmaker.  (Well, two in his first few years, when Chris Carter was still around).

On this team, with 2 very good receivers, and excellent tight end, and (hopefully) two stud backs...not to mention a filthy defense...this year could be very excititing.  When's training camp start again?  I'm psyched!

Nope.  That honor goes to Ray Lucas who took our 2002 season and single-handedly flushed it completely down the toilet.

I was looking at our 2006 schedule just awhile ago, and I noticed that we play Minnesota at home.  How cool is that gonna be for Daunte?
