The soap dish line is priceless

Lawyer Eric Deters, who represents a class of folks suing Bengals receiver Chad Johnson for failing to deliver on a promise to give away a Lexus at a Cincinnati-area comedy club, claims that Johnson perjured himself during deposition testimony in the case.

He “lied under oath more than once,” Deters said during a recent interview with Alan Cutler on 1530 The Homer in Cincinnati, via FanHouse.  The matter has been referred to prosecutors, Deters told Cutler.

Deters, who also represented a class of alleged victims in the filed-then-abandoned action against the Patriots for cheating in Super Bowl XXXVI, says that the case against Chad goes to trial on June 30.  There’s even speculation from the lawyer representing the comedy club that Johnson won’t show up for the trial.

The lawyer chided Chad, opining that Johnson has the “mental agility of a small soap dish.”  (Yeah, the guy actually said that.)

“The intellectual capacity there was very much lacking,” Deters also said.  “I don’t understand how he can understand a playbook.”

Among other things, Deters said that Johnson claimed under oath that he didn’t know anything about the Lexus giveaway, minutes before admitting that he knew people were present at the club on the night in question . . . because . . . a Lexus was . . .  being . . .  given . . . away.

Though Deters might be right, we think it’s extremely unbecoming to the profession for lawyers to be launching such attacks in public, even when the target sorely deserves it.

Such comments also might be a violation of whatever ethical rules apply to Deters’ license to practice law in Kentucky (where the case apparently is pending).  Then again, those rules are enforced almost as frequently as the laws regarding perjury are enforced against folks who lie under oath while testifying.

I am writing on behalf of the organization for the Ethical Treatment of Soap Dishes. Mr. Deters unjustified attack against soap dishes both large and small is an outrage. We are considering filing a lawsuit against Mr. Deters slanderous assault on our community. Ask yourself who would you rather have in your bathroom after finishing your business? A soap dish or El Stinko Loco?

For those who always bitch when PFT is listed as a source, here's a similar story from AOL Sports...

Where is Tommy?  It's not like him to miss an opportunity like this.
