'72 - The Perfect Season

With training camp starting, I came to the realization that I know very little about the 2008 Miami Dolphins.   I was looking at a depth chart to see who is projected as starters and backups.  Here's the view I had (JT is still being shown)

It's a little scary.  The skill positions on offense are a concern.  Starters at TE, QB and WR are unproven at best.  At worst.....they are crap.  Our starting RB is coming off a serious injury and his backup has proven somewhat less than reliable in recent years.  Our shaky defense will now be without Zach and JT.  Two bright spots, Bell and Crowder have been injured.

I think it's going to be a wild ride.

I think we beat the Jets on opening day.  That's what I think.

I was thinking about my post, wondering if I was too negative.   I've decided that I wasn't.

My validation is the fantasy football prep I'm doing.  The only players I would even consider on a 16 player roster is Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams.  Brown is a low end number 2 back due to last years injury.  Williams is late round flyer as insurance if Brown can't get it done.

That's pretty much it.   Maybe I shouldn't use FF to support my case.......truth is, my FF track record sucks.  Maybe the King of Fantasy Football will chime in.  Sunstroke? Is there talent on this roster that I'm ignoring?

I wouldn't say, it was TOO negative, Jim.  Matter of fact, it was right on the money.

Although I can see Ricky/Ronnie and Ginn putting up some good numbers for FF.  Earnest Wilford might do some damage too.  Feely is a proven kicker (if he sticks around).  That's about it from what I can see.

akin ayodele is going to fill the inside lb spot just fine. he is a tackling machine right around 100 tackles a year. fasano is a mauler blocker at te, and has decent hands. to get both these guys for a 4 was a steal...

obviously the offensive strength is going to be the running game. while jake long has a lot to work on from the passing game at lt, he is a natural monster run blocking (especially downfield against smaller lb's, safety's, and corner's). whomever gets behind him and into the second level, watch out. big question is going to be whether they can open up enough, to keep teams from stacking the box on them.

defensively, the corner's are likely to be exposed often. especially given a lack of pass rush now with dancing queen gone. i would expect them though to be better than the woeful performances they turned in against stopping the run last year. that raider's game was nightmarish, with huggy bear's son running all up and down the field at will.

on special teams, again it won't be nearly as bad as last year. i mean seriously, last year our st unit was an utter joke at times. parcells has been signing some folks that are primarily st specialists, like larry izzo types. the guy knows what he is doing unlike camoron completely ignoring the st unit. st is the easiest unit to invest in, and its a real good return in sometimes being the single difference in winning or losing.

all in all, i wouldn't be so gloom and doom on the 2008 season. they play a last place schedule, and those teams certainly aren't offensive juggernaughts. the formula is going to be wannstache like, ala, low scoring, run oriented, field position, time of possession type games to get small margin wins. its boring, but you can win in the nfl with this strategy. as with any team though, injuries ends up having the biggest impact on how the season unfolds. this team has paper thin depth, so injuries are going to hit it that much harder.

Hey ... welcome back UK!!! I don't see a lot to be excited about but I am hopeful that someone will emerge.

Well, if you're looking at this roster solely from a Fantasy Football perspective, there's not much available that will help you win your league.
