I know, I know...a fan should always cheer for their team to win, but it is imperative to me that San Diego get the #1 overall pick in next year's draft. The Padres need Stephen Strasburg more than they've ever needed a player in the draft. Elite pitching talent, homegrown SD product, Olympic stud. Currently the Nationals are a 1/2 game ahead of us for that first pick, and most people that I've spoken to thinks he is a lock for the #1 overall...so I am praying hard for the Padres to go on a harsh losing streak to close things out.

San Diego needs Strasburg...we need him badly.

I'm not sure Strasburg will go #1 overall, you might have a shot at him lower.  This won't be a talent thing, it'll be a Scott Boras thing.  Many a "should be #1's" don't go where they should due to go 'ol Scotty.  A lot of teams don't have the stomach to deal with him.  I don't put Towers in that arena, he will deal with Boras when needed.  Seattle generally doesn't and I think they are your biggest hurdle for that overall #1.

If we get the #1 overall, then we control our own pick destiny... Bottom line: If Strasburg isn't somewhere in the Padres system being fitted for a fast-track suit when the season starts next year, then I will be 100% unamused...

Pretty much. The Yankees and Sox have rebuilt their systems by taking talented guys in the later rounds due to signing demands and then paying them way above slot. Of course, nothing is ever guaranteed, just ask the Yankees this year. They didn't sign their first two picks due to this system. But hey, can't really complain as they have profited off of this corrupt system for the past few years.
