Harrison asks Colts to release him

Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Bill Polian, Indianapolis Colts, Marvin Harrison

After the two sides couldn’t agree on a restructured contract, WR Marvin Harrison asked the Colts to release him, a league source said Sunday night.

As much as the team would rather not — and Colts president Bill Polian acknowledged Sunday that it’s a tricky situation — Harrison is a luxury that Indianapolis can no longer afford.

Now that Harrison has declined to restructure his contract, the Colts have little choice but to let him and his $13.4 million salary-cap number go. It will mark the end of an illustrious 13-year career in Indianapolis, where Harrison and QB Peyton Manning formed one of the greatest quarterback-receiver tandems in NFL history.

Already the speculation about where Harrison will land is beginning. For starters, Harrison is determined to continue playing. A logical landing spot would be the receiver-needy Philadelphia Eagles, where Harrison would be reunited with his former Syracuse teammate, QB Donovan McNabb, while getting to play in the city where he lives.

He will likely sign with the Eagles, but if he doesn't, do the phins try and sign him?  He may not be what he used to, but this could be the veteran to mentor our young WR core that we needed.  If he doesn't want a boat load of cash, I say we give him a shot.

A 13 year veteran is too much. I don't see Tuna going for that.

You're probably right, but I wouldn't have a problem if they did.

He's old and more prone to injury,  plus he's clearly not what he used to be.  The past two seasons have proved that.

Signing Marvin Harrison would be like the signing of Chris Carter a few years ago...a headed for Canton Hall of Famer with 1000 catches behind him and very few ahead of him. Marvin is no longer the great player he once was, and not worth the fat contract he would demand.

And we don't have the other big part of his success.........Peyton Manning.

Let the jets hire all the Ex greats and big Names.........We will build from the Draft the Tuna way.

He's DEFINITELY NOT a thug, but he is old and has clearly lost a step.  Having him on my fantasy team, I watched him not get open and drop balls all season long.

If I were an NFL GM, I don't think I'd touch him with a 10-foot pole.

He was just investigated because his gun was used in a shooting. No charges could be filed because not one witness was credible enough because they all changed their stories repeatedly. I didn't think he was a thug either until this fiasco.
