(This is coming from someone who would rather watch the grass grow than watch any of march madness....)

but...

there seems to be alot of complaining about how many teams make it every year, then having the "play in game"...Why not have a mini play in tournement ,take 6 or 8 of those Bubble teams make them play in to the tourney....

Anyways my 2 cents...

I think that the problem with what you're suggesting is that there's always going to be bubble teams.  Whether they're on the bubble in the field of 64 or 128, some teams are just going to miss the cut.

I think that with 64 teams (actually 65), that every team that can possibly win the tourney is in it.  There isn't a possibility of a team worse than that making it all the way and winning it.

I would be okay with certain spots in the tourney guaranteed to mini-tourneys, if you wanted to do it that way, but it's not really needed.

My overall opinion is that if you want a spot in the top 64, play well in the regular season.  If you're a tweener that gets screwed, tough crap -- it's not like you were going to win it all anyway.

Maybe there should be 68 teams.  One "play in" game for each bracket

What does this accomplish, though?  Won't we be having the same discussion about the 69th team that got screwed?  Lock the tourney at 64 and be done with it.

There are mini-tournaments.  They are called conference championship tournaments.  No team ranked lower than 9 has ever won the NCAA tournament, so nit-picking the lower seeds who have slim to no chance of winning it is crazy.

I thought adding the one play in game was stupid. I don't think you can get rid of the automatic qualifiers because those kids played hard and I think it is a nice reward. But those automatic bids actually keep out a couple teams who are better.

^^

Sure, but are they "better" enough to win it all?   If not, what's the difference.  Besides, half of the fun of the tourney is seeing these nobody teams pull off an upset or two.
