Considering his age, you'd have to think that was it for him. NFL-wise... 20 months if he behaves in prison would get him out in time for training camp 2011. Plax would be 33 at that time.

Yeah, if you're Marvin Harrison, you still have some years left and while some team would probably give Plax a shot, I'm not convinced he'd want to try - or make a roster if he did.

I'd expect that the 8-game suspension the Commish promised him would still hold up, should he sign with some team after he gets out.

Will he serve the full 2 years?  That seems like a lot of time.

Are they making an example of him or does he have previous problems with the law or something?

They are definitely making an example of him.  New York doesn't tolerate irresponsible gun use.

Some lawyer-type on ESPN said he'll probably serve 20 months.

He's actually lucky.  I think Bloomberg advocated the maximum which if I'm not mistaken is 4 years and a massive fine.

That is pretty harsh considering it was not an intentional criminal act.  Don't be surprised if the judge pulls a Daryl Strawberry move and gives him a lighter sentence than the one he agreed to.

One good thing.  Goodell said Burress will be reinstated once he's released from prison.

You mean someone else tucked an illegally concealed weapon into his pants? He is fully culpable and I am glad he got a stiff penalty. Celebrities have been getting away with a lot historically.

He had a concealed weapons permit that was expired.  Maybe in the hubbub of being an NFL star, he forgot to renew it.

It was from a different state. New York does not recognize a Florida concealed permit. Even if he had been in Florida it was still an illegal act he knowingly took part in because you cannot carry weapons into bars/night clubs even with a permit.

As a certified Law Enforcement officer I'm entitled to carry anywhere in the United States ......But Its a Known Fact that NYC still gives even Police officers from other states Problems. You would think California would be the PITA state , but its NYC.

Here is a good site to check out if you are visiting other states and plan to bring a weapon with you :

http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/

Personally I do not leave the house without it. EVER.

Guys like Plaxico make me sick.  I'm not sure if he's just really Dumb or  thought he was just above the law because of his celebrity. Either way he makes the legal , gun carrying Joe Blow look really bad. I totally advocate Concealed Carry permits and the right to carry and protect yourself.  But I believe just because you can afford to but a gun and carry one legally  you should get one. You need to learn how to use and care for the thing safely. You should have to demonstrate some skill level and you need to be educated on how to lock it up so no one steals it , and make sure it doesn't get into a childs hands. And make sure you don't wind up shooting yourself either...... Roll Eyes

Joe Blow wouldn't have done any time for this. Sucks to be famous these days huh?
