THE ASSCLOWN AWARD

« on: October 22, 2009, 12:06:23 pm »

This week is the seventh anniversary of the moscow theater siege.  I only learned about it last year while watching Situation Critical.  It was hostage standoff that lasted about 3 days.  It was between the Russians and the Chechyns.

I'm interested to know.  Do you people have memories of that siege?  Did you follow it on the news?  Did you have family members affected by it?

I vaguely remember seeing it on the news. It did not affect me at all.

Did we have family members affected by it?

Did I miss something? Or did I accidentally log on to www.TheBolsheviksMakeMeCry.co m?

Funny, the Maine clan went to the movies that night in Moscow.  Thankfully we picked "Cinemagic" in the square instead of The Moscow Theater.  It was a toss up right up until the end.
Wink

I actually have no idea what the siege was.  1st I have ever heard of this...

I have recollections of it, if I recall the Ruskies botched the rescue attempt and a number died?

I think "botched" is arguable. They gassed the place and the effect was pretty much exactly what the experts said it would be.

I remember the event. It wasn't anything that affected my world and that's why I bet most people can't remember it themselves.

The thing is, all the bombs by the terrorists were dummies, so they didn't have to use the gas.

Yes, the rescue was botched.  Unconscious victims were dumped on their backs, there weren't enough doctors, or antidotes.  129 people died.

It didn't affect me at all, either.  I was a freshman in high school.  However, I've learned to follow things as the happen around the world.

I didn't remember this event at all until it was just brought up. I remember how shocked and angered by it I was.

I watched it because Alpha team was there, and I wanted to see just how good they were. For those of you who do not know, they are supposed to be the elite level Spetsnaz and the equivilent to Delta/Seal team 6.
