I Love the NFC West

Seriously.

Never in the history of football has a match-up between two 3-7 teams meant so much as the contest between the 49'ers (3-7) and the Cardinals (3-7), which will happen on MNF tomorrow night.

The winner of this game will run their record to 4-7, and place themselves one game back of division leaders St. Louis and Seattle, both of which are 5-6.

If the 49ers win, they will play at Green Bay (uh oh!) in Week 13. If the 49ers win that game, they should just be handed the NFC West banner right on the spot, as that would be by far the most meaningful game won from any team in that division.

The Seahawks have the easiest road to 6-6 stardom, by hosting Carolina in Week 13. But, if Arizona beats SF on MNF in Week 12, they will set up a possible first-place showdown when they host the St. Louis Rams in Week 13, with the winner possibly - POSSIBLY - having a 5-7 record, if things work out to make that such.

The sheer patheticness of this division this year has somewhat of an endearing quality about it. I'm interested, and I want to see a three-way tie for the division after Week 13 at 5-7.

There should be a rule that a team must be at least 9-7 to win a division

In theory the worst record a division winner could have is 3-13....a 14-2 team could miss the playoffs.... a 15-1 could be a wild card....a 16-0 team could play a road game. 

Imagine a 3-13 team hosting a 15-1 team in the first round of the playoffs or a 14-2 team sitting home with a 3-13 team playing.

I don't see the second part happening though...this might be the worst I've ever seen the NFC West.

It says a lot about "parity" when a 7-9 team wins their division and goes to the playoffs while a 10-6 team sits at home.

Two years ago a 9-7 NFCW team nobody saw winning a post season game went to the SB.  It was the same a team without a winning record won their division in the AFCW and then shocked everyone by beating a 12-4 wildcard that had the second best record in the NFL.  Meanwhile an 11-5 team sat at home.

Speaking of this game I am leaving in 20 minutes to head out to the Stadium to start my tailgating. I will be in the Endzone wearing a black Beanie Wells jersey (#26) dead center with the goalpost 10 rows up. Not that most of you would notice me or even know what the hell I look like but some do. I have actually been on the the TV the last 3 home games.

In all fairness, that year ARI clinched in week 14 (at 8-5) and basically laid down after that.
