This is funny in a sadistic kind of way. I remember back when Wanny was here thinking if thngs just get bad enough that Wayne would fire him and get someone decent to coach us. Some of you may remember the TDMMC paper bags we wore to the "one" victory at that point.  That was midseason 2004 when we were like 1-7 or something. I couldn't in my wildest dreams have imagined the carnage that lay before us.

It escapes me how people who have achieved such a financial wealth can be so stupid. I mean, if I was to have a business that was worth 100's of millions of dollars and I was inexperinced in said business the least thing that I would do is to hire at least one person who was both loyal to only me and very experienced in the business I was in. As it is it really seems like Ross is content in having the blind lead him just by telling him he is special.

More bad news?
How about this: Multiple sources tell me that the only way Alex Smith is going to sign with the Dolphins is if Peyton Manning goes to San Francisco.
That's right, even the jilted 49'ers quarterback would prefer to return to the team that jilted him over the Dolphins organization that on Sunday tried to recruit him to Miami. Smith's camp has made this clear to the Dolphins.
I suppose that is one reason they are today scheduled to host former Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard -- a quarterback that obviously does not rise to "franchise quarterback" status but is, well, a body

I think Peter King sums it up best ..."In the history of NFL general managers, Ireland is on the coldest streak ever. He needs to do something right."

Duh. They are in contract talks and it is about the same money in both places. Of course smith will prefer his current team and the one, the one that drafted him and the one he nearly made it to the Super Bowl with. This has nothing to do with Miami not being appealing.

Side note. Maybe Flynn wasn't all that good. Maybe Philbin was helping Flynn out on contract negotiation and never really intended to make him "his guy". Smith is actually a better fit for this offense and unfortunately got his career started with 2 defensive coaching staffs. I think he would flourish under Philbin and Sherman.

Gotta do something about our receivers though.

You have a chance to go to a 13-3 team or a 6-10 team. Which would you choose? I don't think this one is about Ireland or Miami in particular. Most people would go with a team with a better chance to win if the money is similar. -EK

Frankly, I'm hoping Alex Smith does NOT sign in Miami.  We crave a franchise QB here.  For all of Alex Smith's success last year, he is not a franchise QB.  He's destined to be starting QB # 15 (or whatever it is) since Dan Marino left, and to later give way to starter # 16.  Stick with Matt Moore if the best you can do is Alex Smith.

Maybe this is all an intricate plan to stink next year and land Matt Barkley.  I don't know.  I just know Flynn, Smith et al won't be the answers to anything more than a trivia question.

I honestly think Alex Smith is a downgrade from Moore right now.

I honestly think Alex Smith is a downgrade from Moore right now.

Just curious, why?  Is it because of his play in his first few years?  Is it that, lumped with being drafted so high?  I see Alex Smith as a perfect fit for the West Coast and what we are likely going to be doing.  He is smart with good short throw accuracy and has the ability to move a bit with his legs.  I was worried about leadership, but felt like he really grew in that area last year.

I like Moore and think he is a player we can work with, but Smith actually seems to me to be a very good fit.  I was very encouraged with Smith's development with an offensive minded coach last year.

I personally do not want Smith here.....I am not impressed with him and I think he is at his peak now.....which is not saying much.

As for Smith, I think his best year (3,100 yds, 17 TD, 5 INT) don't translate well to a shootout against Tom Brady.  If he's not elite, don't bother.  Just stick with Moore until the elite guy pops up.

If they sign Smith (which is a long-shot) they still need to draft a guy. Whether its Tannehill at 8 (if he is there) or someone in Rd 2.

I saw a kid in Pop Warner who could throw a 50 yard bomb. Maybe he is available. Point being whay waste a second on someone who isn't even on the radar. The QBs left, including Tannehill are longshots and not worth wasting a pick on. At least not for us when we have so many other needs.
