I think it would be nice if Philbin does more of the talking. He seems to have a heir about him that makes oyu wanbt to trust he knows where he is going. Maybe it's the grandfatheresque persona he gives off. This link has some good video of him.

Not only does Joe Philbin look like former Miami Hurricanes football coach Larry Coker, but they also have a similar deadpan sense of humor.

New Dolphins coach Joe Philbin has a deadpan sense of humor.

It’s a dry wit that is an acquired taste, but Philbin took it for a spin during his hour long media session at the NFL owner’s meeting.

We – Dolphins fans, the players and the media – truly don’t know much about the man.

He’s clearly intelligent, and a very good communicator. It doesn’t appear that he’s a real fiery guy, but Philbin did admit to dropping “an F bomb” on a player from time to time.

What really stood out to those who talked with him for an hour this morning is his sense of humor.

He opened the breakfast by joking that we planned to starve him.

“We’re committed to winning, and committed to doing everything possible to have the best team we can in 2012,” Philbin said about the process the Dolphins are on, which he WOULD NOT label rebuilding. Philbin discusses Dolphins’ blueprint in video below:

However, Philbin did admit he wants to draft HIS PLAYERS, and implement his style of team, which might require some time and an infusion of new talent.

Philbin pointed out that in the nine years he spent in Green Bay the Packers didn’t add one offensive weapon through free agency. He’s trying to do the same in South Florida.

“We get paid to make decisions. And we understand that they aren’t going to like everything we did,” Philbin said when asked about the passion of the fan base, which protested the team’s free agent moves last week. “They didn’t throw any eggs at my car as I drove by. Let’s see how long that lasts.”

When asked if he’d be in favor of the Dolphins doing HBO’s Hard Knocks, which is something I personally think could benefit this franchise, which admittedly has an image problem, Philbin said: “I’m built for radio, not TV.”

When asked about the transition from Green Bay to South Florida, Philbin said: “I’m 0-and-1. I bought a much bigger house than I needed.”

When asked about facing New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady twice a year, Philbin quickly responded with “That’s why I hired [defensive coordinator] Kevin Coyle” before offering up a serious answer.

While fans might not like to hear comparisons to Coker, let us not forget Butch Davis’ replacement led the Hurricanes to the program’s last national championship, and clearly has a win-loss record that will probably never be matched.

Dolphins fans would be lucky if Philbin matched Coker’s type of success.

Stay tuned for more videos and breakdown of what the Dolphins’ new head coach had to say about his team.

Seems like a down to earth guy.  I am impressed that he has regained his sense of humor already.  I know people who have gone thru what he went thru, most of them did not seem that okay this quickly afterwards.

His son was kind of troubled. I think it is easier to deal with than if one day unexpectedly your wife or son didn't come home. If they lead a troubled life you half expect it.
