Signing Jake Grove, an injury prone center, and trading the starting center to Oakland for a 6th round pick.  Satele has played 57 out of 61 games since and is going to the playoffs this year w/ Indy.  Grove played 10 games that year, and hasn't played since.

Justin Smiley plays only 8 games w the 49ers the year before, but Ireland still signed him to a 5 year contract.  Smiley starts 24 games in 2 years with the dolphins before being traded, plays 9 games in JAx and retires.

Trading Ted Ginn.  He was a valuable return man and a decent speed threat at WR. Was worth his relatively small salary.

Drafting Pat White was pretty dumb.

Of course, almost all of his draft pics are.  Amazing how many of Ireland picks aren't even in the NFL anymore.

What about embarrassing the team with stupid PR mistakes?

If the hiring manager at Gulf Coast Community College had asked me what Jeff Ireland asked Dez Bryant, the school would've had to pay me a lot of money and the hiring manager would be out of a job.  I still scratch my head in wonder as to how Jeff Ireland still has a job after pulling a stunt like that.

The thing about Ireland, in regard to the Dez Bryant thing:  If he were a really good GM, I think it's a question you can justify asking.  It's Ireland's job to determine whether or not Bryant is a headcase.  If that means evaluating the stability of his family OR trying to illicit a response from him, so be it.

Bryant was arrested this year for beating up his mom.  Maybe Ireland came out OK on that one.  (Although there are ways to ask that same question without making yourself look like an asshole.)

Trying to imagine other ways of asking someone if their mom is a prostitute...

Just curious, Dez...Did your mother's last employer provide a 401K, or a tube of KY?

So, tell me Dez...when it comes to anal sex, would you categorize your mother as a "weekend warrior" or a "paid professional?"

One last question, Dez...have you ever known your mom to gargle beefsteak for food stamps?

I think you can bring up the publicized, trouble history of Bryant's upbringing and family and asked how that's shaped him and what he's doing to try to better himself after facing that adversity.

There are ways to ask tough questions without being disrespectful.

"Was your mother's involvement with your father's pimping business more administrative or operational?"

"My father was a pimp."
"My mother worked for my father."

What kind of conclusion should be drawn?

I'm not saying that conclusion shouldn't be drawn, but in a business environment, that conclusion is best left unsaid.

I'm not sure that falls under Ireland's jurisdiction as GM. I assume by PR you mean the orange carpet, Club Liv, etc. There is a department dedicated to these types of things and they are not involved in football operations. I always wondered why the uproar about not focusing on the team since they were not related.
