It makes sense all around. Plus it puts the month of May in play for the NFL. So now it is officially a year round sport. Each month something of significance is happening.
Jan-Playoffs
Feb-Super Bowl
March-Free Agency/Combine
April-Combine/Draft lead up
May-Draft
June-June 1st cuts (last wave of FA)
July-Training camp
August-Preseason/Hall of Fame
Sept-Dec--Regular Season
All this does is move the "month of nothing" from May to April (in which nothing is happening under the new schedule).
I guess you can argue that it's better to have empty space filled with draft speculation than it is to have empty space filled with draft analysis and rookie OTAs, but I don't see it.
