NFL is doing some shuffling starting in 2014 most likely. The League Year will start BEFORE the combine.  And the NFL draft will be moved from late April to Mid May.

Pushing the draft back a few weeks is no big deal in my opinion. (would start Thurs May 15th next year is the rumor going around). And Free Agency (start of the new league year) would be the same start date just the combine would get pushed back a month into late March.

This will benefit the two teams that play in the SB, more than the other teams.

It makes sense all around. Plus it puts the month of May in play for the NFL. So now it is officially a year round sport. Each month something of significance is happening.

Jan-Playoffs
Feb-Super Bowl
March-Free Agency/Combine
April-Combine/Draft lead up
May-Draft
June-June 1st cuts (last wave of FA)
July-Training camp
August-Preseason/Hall of Fame
Sept-Dec--Regular Season

^^^^^ and no mention of the all important Pro Bowl.

They should've added the stipulation that coaching vacancies cannot be filled until one week after the super bowl. Other than that, I have no issue with pushing back the draft.

All this does is move the "month of nothing" from May to April (in which nothing is happening under the new schedule).

I guess you can argue that it's better to have empty space filled with draft speculation than it is to have empty space filled with draft analysis and rookie OTAs, but I don't see it.

Well in their eyes the combine being late March early April fills in the month of April.

This could also be part of the grand plan to introduce a longer season.  Now the superbowl could move back two weeks to make way for an 18 game season.

That's the ultimate goal, Super Bowl to be played the Sunday before Presidents day

Which would make the day after the Super Bowl a national holiday.  Makes perfect sense.  The game doesn't start till the evening on the east coast.  By the time it's all over, it's about 10:30 pm.  Everyone is all liquored up.  They don't want to go to work the next day.

The day after the Super Bowl is one of the least productive days in American business.

Something that wasn't widely reported this week was that the NFL told San Fran and Houston their upcoming Super Bowls will be either the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd week in February so be prepared for any of those weeks as you start your preparation. Leaving it open to go to an 18 game season between now and then.

it's official. Moved to May 8-10 next year

If it goes well expect it to stay in May going forward according to league sources
