There's been some rumors lately that seem to be true, from the sources I have.  And if so, it means that some huge nerd properties are in very good hands.

The latest news is that Christopher Nolan will be taking on a "Godfather" role in the DC Universe, combining The Man of Steel (which early reviews say is amazing) with Christian Bale in the Bat-suit to create some kind of Justice League or World's Finest series of movies.  This means more involvement from writer David Goyer and director Zack Snyder.  I'm super excited for this, because I love these movies and the tone, and also because while a similar concept as the Marvel Universe, the Batman/Superman movies are a totally different take on the same genre.

That brings me to the Avengers.  With the success of the first film, Marvel has put the franchise in the hands of Writer/Director Joss Wheedon, in a Godfather role.  This is expanding to include a bunch of new films and a TV series, as well.  The one issue with Marvel is that their properties are all broken up into different companies, between Marvel Studios, FOX, and Sony, but the main stuff from Marvel is really good and seems to be continuing in that direction.

Star Trek -- I don't even really like Star Trek and the reboot was awesome.  The 2nd movie looks great, too.  It's a revised franchise, brought back from the brink of death.

Star Wars -- While we haven't seen anything yet, the news that JJ Abrahams is directing, and that Disney seems to be doing things right (getting a good script first), I'm super excited.

^ I was operating off of the fact that The Dark Knight Trilogy was the end of that version of Batman for these purposes, which is what we were told.

That meant that no Christopher Nolan Batman to use, but that you had a Christopher Nolan Superman (with a similar feel) to either use or discard.  Did you re-boot Batman?  How do you make it "match" this more realistic Superman without simply re-doing The Dark Knight movies?  And did you have the time to wait?  And how do you deal with Green Lantern, where you potentially have a realistic Superman, a corny Green Lantern, and a Batman that needs a reboot?

Now, with both Superman and Batman coming from the same vision, you have a tangible starting point.  It means you can "soft reboot" Green Lantern if you wanted (and ignore the Ryan Reynolds movie) or simply make a "World's Finest" movie right away to move into the Justice League later.  They were between a rock and a hard place, and now, while perhaps not 100% ideal, they have a clear path to follow.

OK. Thanks for the explanation.
