The Jets are currently 4-3, and in second place in the East.  However...

The Jets won week 1 because of a questionable "late hit" penalty where the Bucs' linebacker pushed Gino Smith out of bounds as he was going out of bounds.  Questionable call, but whatever.

Fast forward to yesterday, where the officials decided to bust out a new rule after the Jets missed a FG in OT, giving them another chance 15 yards closer.  Not saying they would have lost had that not been called, but they would have had to earn it.

I wonder if the league isn't trying to help the Jets because of the NY Super Bowl, national infatuation with Rex Ryan, and the Cinderella story surrounding Geno Smith.  I hate being the conspiracy theorist, but how does one team get 2 free wins thanks to the officials in the first 7 games?

I hate the Jets as much as any Dolphins fan but how can you blame the refs for calling a rule that is on the books? That seems to be stretching things a bit.

while I dont think they will make the playoffs the Atlanta wins and NE wins are good wins.

The late hit call vs TB was legit too, dumb move by the TB linbacker

The call in the TB game was not questionable it was stupid on the behalf the TB player

The call in the NE game was also the correct call.  Just like the "Tuck rule" call was correct in the Oakland game.

But the NFL bears quite a bit of responsibly on this one.  BB's understanding of the new rule, matched 100% what was posted on NFL.com up until about 6 pm last night, when it was changed to reflect how the rule was actually written in the rule book and taught to officials and called yesterday.

Granted BB should be using the rule book not NFL.com for rule interpretation.  But as the official website had it wrong then it is logical to conclude that the NFL was inconstant in how they explained it to questioning coaches, etc.

I too don't see the Jets going anywhere.

The player who was called for the penalty even admitted that they went over the rule change in training camp.  There are no excuses.

The NFL doesn't have enough pull to get the Jets in the Super Bowl.  They're good, but not THAT good.

Rex blowing off the Saturday night meetings and taking his team to DAVE AND BUSTERS really paid off. This is why Rex is a clown!
