Houston just reached an agreement with former Pats assistant and current Penn State coach Bill O'Brien.  That's now a guarantee that Bridgewater is going to Houston.  If there is anyone who can recognize the bake of a franchise quarterback, it's him.

Far from a guarantee.  They could sign someone like Cutler in free agency then draft Clowney

I doubt that. The really good quarterbacks are never allowed to hit the free agent market barring some calamity

It's not that Cutler isn't worth it. Cutler wouldn't agree to it. Chicago would be smart to sign Cutler and draft an Aaron Murray in the later rounds. Houston should do the same if Cutler becomes available. If Houston can't get a veteran QB in FA or a trade, then should look at Bridgewater.

Not necessarily.  There may be a clause in his contract that prevents him from being franchised.

And Cutler isn't exactly elite.  I wouldn't throw big money at him if he hits the open maker

True. He has no say in the application. He has one in the acceptance.

Not really. If he wants to play he signs the 1 year deal and plays. Your not saying he is going to sit out a full season are you? That is beyond silly

Cutler doesn't have any non-franchise clause in his contract, at least according to comments from the Bears GM, though he didn't seem like he wanted to go that route.

Additionally, despite Josh McCown playing so well as Jay's sub this season, Chicago really botched his one-year contract so that they don't have a team option, so he is a UFA this offseason. If Chicago had added one dollar to his contract, or even a few unattainable bonuses, they could have kept him at pretty much the bare minimum cost.

Cutler just re-upped with the Bears for seven years.

That couldn't have happened. Because I was told that he was going into free agency....

So now that he won't be hitting the free agent market, the odds of Bridgewater landing in Houston just increased tremendously.
