For those of us in Central Florida, the Sunrail has released its initial schedule. As I feared, it is crap. It does not run on weekends (all of this is initial and I expect once they see a lack of profits they may change). Weekends would likely be the only time I would be jumping on the thing, strike 1. It basically does not run after 10 PM, strike 2. The time between the next to last and last run is two hours rather then the usual 30 minutes they have the rest of the day, strike 3.

It is clear that Sunrail is trying to cater to the working commute and trying to keep casual diners/drinkers from using the service. The problem is, the only people I have ever heard talk about using the thing are people talking about going to the arena and to go eat/drink. I do not know anyone discussing using it for business purposes. Stay tuned, but I expect this thing to be a huge waste of money unless the schedule is revamped.

We have something similar down south called the Tri-Rail.  It really isn't for casual use and is mainly for people to get to work.  It doesn't run late enough to get to arenas and I always found that frustrating.

I am not familiar with this particular train, but every place I have ever lived has significantly more frequent mass transit during rush hour for the commuter than weekends and evening for the diners/drinkers.  This isn't a matter of discouraging them, but because there aren't enough of them to making more frequent trips viable.

I disagree with you that they need to change the schedule.   But if they don't attract commuters (the bread and butter of every mass transit system) it will be a disaster.

The whole thing is a work in motion and will evolve over time. I've seen two other versions of the schedule prior to this. In fact we (county engineering)  just received a different one then this in the past week.

Tri rail is fairly useless because you have to drive to get to the train station, and then drive from the station to where you're going.

Metrorail is useful because it runs by the Marlins stadium into downtown Miami (including the airport) and runs late so you can park remotely and take the train to and from the game.
