Fake punts didn't cause the Dolphins a playoff birth, the defense did.

Considering that it may have cost them two games this year, which would be a 10-6 record, yes it may have cost them a playoff berth.

yeah that's foolish. That 2 fake punts, just 2 plays cost them 2 wins. Nobody with an IQ over 1 is buying that. Sorry  Roll Eyes

Lions game, the fake punt led to a field goal.  True the game was lost ultimately by four points, but those three points could have been huge, and things could have turned out differently if they had not given up the fake punt.

Jets, game, if they don't give up the fake punt, the Jets don't put the game away and maybe the Dolphins come back and win.

To give up two fake punts in one season is pretty awful.

Same Lions game where Miami BLOCKED a FG and took it down inside the 5 and scored 1 play later. Yeah those all sorta equal out. Your case is really flimsy

So the fake punts led to:

1) a FG in a game Miami lost by 4 (on a last second TD)
2) a TD in a game Miami lost by 13

Why are we even discussing this?

If you want to blame the weakness of your special teams on one person the person to blame is the GM.

Dolphins are a poorly constructed team.

Your top-22 can compete with NE's top-22, but once you have one or two injuries your team falls apart because anyone other than the top-22 are crap.  Playoff teams like NE are constructed knowing that there will be injuries with quality players that while not as good as the starters are capable of stepping in and still do a decent job.

Miami didn't suffer more injuries than NE between week 1 and week 15, but NE was capable of filling the holes.  Once MIA lost a player or too they fold like a cheap suit.

If Philbin decided to "teach Wallace a lesson" then that episode is completely on the coach.  You sit your best receiver and your offense immediately shuts down?  Learn how to manage your players instead.

I guarantee you that if Philbin hadn't already received his guarantee a week earlier, there is NO WAY Wallace comes out of that game.  Instead of proving how tough he is, Philbin would have tried to actually coach his players and would have made a real effort to get Wallace on board.

Instead, because this game is meaningless to Philbin, he chose to either let Wallace pout or teach him a lesson... at the cost of a loss.  Now there is more unnecessary discord in the locker room.  Philbin is not a smart coach.

Sat him after only trying to get the ball to him once in the first half against one of the worst pass defenses in the league.

I agree, Philbin is not a smart coach.  Look
