Ian Rapoport on Twitter - A few days before the opener, the #Dolphins lost their starting tight end. They just put MarQueis Gray on Injured Reserve and signed FA TE Gavin Escobar. Source said Gray tore his Achilles in yesterday’s practice. Was poised for a big season.

Looks like Gesicki and Smythe will get more playing time earlier than expected. He played fullback and special teams so many places he will have to be replaced.

I just got home and saw this,I'm curious to see who actually starts, and gets the reps at TE being we're already down 1- possibly 2 wr's with Grant's concussion protocol...(I realize Grant is listed as full participation in practice,So he'll probably play)

So is A.J. Derby gonna start? Then a large dose of the 2 rookies, then Escobar?

I am curious to see the 6-6 Wr Tanner McEvoy...Err sorry for the hijack there... Embarrassed

I've ranked how many looks these players will get receiving.  I feel Gesicki will be used primary in the redzone while he develops, but could get more looks if he shows promise early.  My personal opinion, Gase should still make it work with these guys.

1 - Stills
2 - Amendola
3 - Wilson
4 - Drake
5 - Grant
6 - Gesicki
7 - Smythe
8 - Derby
9 - Escobar

^^^ Man, that is a shaky looking group of receivers, imo...  Stills as a #1 WR?

I hope I'm wrong, but damn...

In a typical offense I would think you're right, but Gase likes to spread the ball around.  While none of them are dominant, they are each dangerous in their own way.

I think pass attempts will look more like this.

1 - Drake
2 - Grant
3 - Amendola
4 - Stills
5 - Wilson
6- Gesicki
7- Smythe
8- Derby
9 - Escobar

It makes sense if you believe like Gase that Stills is your best deep threat.  Also if I see any wide receiver screens on 3rd and 10 I'm going to throw the television out the window.

Did anyone else get the feeling that I had that Gray was NOT really poised for a big season anyway? I mean he may have been the starter, but there was a LOT of competition at the position. I kinda felt that it was going to be TE by committee this season anyway. Didn't really feel like Gray was the go-to guy.

He forgot Parker. He's going to get some looks as well and then there's the other RB's they are going to receive more passes then some of the WR's possibly. Everybody is disappointed in Parker because they keep expecting big things from him, but he's put up some ok numbers at WR the last 2 years.

Parker or "Pringles" is out hurt so unlikely he will get any targets.  Gray was mostly used to block and helps out tackles when we play big fast DEs. Not sure who will fill that role now.

I didn't realize he was just talking about this game, I thought he was talking about for the year.

^no I meant for the game.  For the season, Parker is 1st if he's healthy, even if he's underwhelming at times.
