It shouldn't be that surprising. Trump didn't swear the oath on the bible taking office.

I'm not a Trump supporter but I wanted to point it out since you are from another country. We don't have legal requirements for a President or witnesses in court, etc to take an oath on a bible. It's just traditional.

FYI he didn't put his hand on the Bible because the Supreme Court Justice started reading him his oath before Melania got there with the Bible. It was an awkward moment for sure. With that said he is doing exactly what he said he would do while running for office and that includes Elon's involvement. None of this was a secret and he definitely hasn't gone back on anything. Most of us who voted for him are happy and in a wait and see with these tarrifs. It could go really well or really bad but I don't think anyone knows for sure.
