Boston Red Sox prospect Jon Lester is scheduled to make his first MLB start on Saturday versus the Texas Rangers.  Boston is playing a day / night double header and Jon will toss the afternoon session.

I have gotten to know Lester very well, he's spent a lot of time here in Portland.  I also had the chance to actually work out with Jon and throw side by side with him.

Jon is basically a left handed Jon Papelbon.  He had some control problems to start this season off in AAA, and he might not be completely ready for this call up yet, but this kid is going to be very good - and for a very long period of time.

Check the box scores after Saturday's game, you might be impressed with some of his numbers.  Texas is a rough team to start against, but he may fare well.

Tell him to wear body armour cause there may be alot of missles flying around....I am really interested to see what this kid is all about.

I've been eagerly waiting to watch young Lester take the mound...I just have too much of a jones for young pitching phenoms.

I'll be watching tomorrow for sure...

Is it at Fenway or at Texas? A lot of the Rangers have deflated road numbers and that would be good for Lester.

Yes, it is at Fenway.  Think I might go to the game.

I just looked at their numbers. Not BAD, but certainly not how they usually perform. Teixiera is actually better on the road so far.

Papelbon "blew" the save tonight, although he just allowed one single and Hansen's inherited runner came in to score. It wasn't an impossible situation to get out of with 2 outs, but it's still a stupid MLB rule.

I missed the game. I looked at the stats though. 4.1 innings with 4 walks and 3 earned runs can't be considered good.

No, but when it comes to rookies, I always feel that if they don't get shelled then it's a good start.

His walks came on the fact that he couldn't place his four seam.  He kept trying to climb the ladder with it and it would come right out of the strike zone.  Batters figured out pretty quickly that his heater was going to be a non-factor.  Doesn't matter, he went to a cut fast ball that he was throwing at 93mph.  He also had a wicked curve going.

I wish that they had kept Hansen in - I wanted to see how the kid would respond.
