Prior to the giant implosion of 2008, the one feature I loved on TDMMC was the little notebook thingy: click it and it took you to the last post of a thread.

I miss that.

There was also something I turned off where it didn't warn you if you were adding to a post and somebody replied in the interim.  I wonder if those options still exist.

I still get a warning if someone posts while I am writing one.

I don't know if its something in the settings, but not every thread has the "NEW" label next to it, when there are new posts in it. Does anyone know if that can be fixed in my personal settings?

What it is, it seems is that new THREADS don't get the (NEW) flag.  Only new posts in threads you've already read.  So, if I post a new thread about selling stuff on eBay and you don't click on it, it will never show a (NEW) flag on your screen, even if there's 92390 new replies.

This is annoying as well.

^^

I don't have any proof of this, but I've noticed it, as well, and I think I know why it happens.

I'm guessing that new topics aren't showing up as new because the software thinks that particular topic already exists, due to the erased posts, but the restored post count.

So, lets say I create a new post and it's #10,000.  We've already had a post 10,000 (it was deleted), but the post count shows that we had one, so the software doesn't see it as new.

Eventually, I'm guessing that we'll catch up to where we were, and things will work.

That's just my guess, though.

So, what you are saying is in about a year and a half, we will be back to where we were, and "new" posts will appear as new?  Either that or we let Tommy loose to get the post count up.

I don't think thats it Dave. I think its more along the lines of what Brian said. Some threads show up with the new flag, and some don't. If your theory was correct, none of them would have the new flag.

i think dave has it right, from all the code i've looked through we're running an up to the minute install of the shopping cart system. i even re-built the templates from scratch to support the new revision.

i restored the user tables in the DB, but not the user tables, so the discrepancy may be in the definition of what is new vs. what isn't new.
