my only thought is that same sex marriage isn't a moral issue, it's an issue of government dictating rules for a religious institution, and an issue of invasion of privacy and equal rights. the last thing it could possibly be is a moral issue.

I REALLY don't care about the Popes stand on moral issues. I find him fascinating and all. I believe he is indeed a man of peace, but I don't think what I do with my body is any of his business. Nor do I think who I marry is his business.

I have a ton of respect for the guy. He has risen as high as he can within his field so that speaks volumes. I don't necessarily agree with him on several issues though.

Yeah, he has risen far - from Hitler Youth to Pope. Not bad....

All jokes aside, you have to respect the man, even if you don't agree with his positions.

There are several ways one can go about being anti-Church (or antidisestablishmentarianist, should you be hungry for syllables). I prefer the "laughing at their folly" approach, while Tony embraces the screwdriver solution.

I was not happy with the church's choice for Pope.  I'm not expecting to agree with him on certain issues, like abortion, but I think that the church needed to find someone who was going to better confront the issues of sex, contraception, and AIDS.  I think the guy they chose was one of the most conservative of their final candidates, in terms of these issues.

But, I have nothing against the Pope.  I think that they really need to modernize their views.  I saw something on the news yesterday, saying that 60% of Catholics didn't agree with the church's policies on things (molestation, contraception, priests can't marry, etc.)   It's really hurting the church as an organization, and they need to update again (which they've done countless times in the past) in order to stay afloat.
