I didn't feel the aftershocks that happened later in the day, either.

I slept through one as well when I lived in San Fran.  Supposedly it was strong enough to open and close drawers and doors.  I didn't feel a thing and just heard about it the following morning.

I saw on the news today where the morning broadcast kept going, reporting on the quake as it was happening.  I would said "screw that" and gotten the hell outta there.

I slept through one once. It happened my first morning back from Sydney a few years ago. I was woken up by some violent shaking, but in my weary, jet lagged state, I thought that it was turbulance, because I had just spent 20 hrs. on an airplane the night before.

Oh you poor inlanders.

Part of the "fun" of a hurricane is watching news reporters on the beach blowing around in the wind and getting hit in the head with coconuts.
