2011 NFC East Champions!

« on: April 28, 2008, 07:59:21 pm »

I'm hearing from all sides (Dave Gray, work, Television, even some bloggers) that GTA4 is the BEST GAME EVER in the history of video games.

Is it REALLY that good? I mean, REALLY THAT GOOD?????? Is it better than SMB3 for NES? Better than Ocarina of Time for N64? Better than Halo, the winner of our 2006 Video-Game Bracket on TDMMC? (Remember that?)

If this game has any flaw or "downside" to it, then your answer has to be NO, because of the perfect 10.0 rating that it received.

I can't say.  I haven't played it yet.

However, rankings are relative to the time a game was released.  So, if SMB3 were released today, it wouldn't get 10s, nor would Ocarina, obviously.

Also, 10 rated games can have flaws, because there will always be technological limits.

I think that GTA4 has a lot more at stake than the other games you mentioned.  -- Single player campaign, separate co-op missions, many multilayer vs. modes, etc.

All three major gaming sites have given it their highest score possible.  10/10 from IGN and Gamespot, and an A+ from 1UP.

I can't ever remember that happening before.

I got the game and played the offline mode for about an hour.  ...and, from what I can tell, it's really, really good.  I don't know what the future holds, but so far, I've been thoroughly entertained.

The production values and attention to detail and probably the most impressive thing about it.  For a city so large, it's insanely detailed, not only with graphics and stuff, but with little things.  I can't even really bring up one thing, because I've been surprised by something every few minutes.

Some things I've noticed:
- When you take a nap, you wake up to an alarm.
- When you take out a light post, wires pull out of the ground and begin to spark.
- When you walk down stairs, you do it straight on, but when you start to run, your body turns sideways.
- If you have to repeat a mission, the conversations you have while driving are different.
- You can watch TV.  I sat there for a few minutes watching some fake show and fake commercials.
- Certain cars have GPS that talks and tells you when to turn.
- When you knock out your headlights, you lose lighting.
- You have a cell phone and can call whoever you meet, whenever you want.

The game feels very much like GTAs before it, with welcome additions.

And the game is hilarious, so far.  I've laughed out loud.

There was this one incident where I had a date with this girl, and on the way there, my cousin called on the phone, saying that these guys were after him.  I decided to go on my date anyway.  We went bowling at the boardwalk.  Afterwards, my cousin called from the hospital, bitching me out for letting him take a beating.  When I picked him up, we had a very funny conversation about how my breath better smell like titties, and how he probably would've sold me out for titty breath.

Games have gotten perfect scores and dubbed greatest game ever all the time.  I remember when MGS2 came out those same words were uttered about it and a 10 wasn't a high enough score to give it. Best game ever should be a personal tag,  cause there are alot of "greatest games ever" that I wouldn't even sniff at if you gave the game to me.

But I will be picking this game up. Looks bad ass.

Amen to that.

Being able to play games in all rooms of the house has gotten me spoiled now. Consoles tied down to just one room have actually become a hassle.

Plus the ability to play casually while simultaneously checking email for work, having IM conversations, and watching a movie is nice.

Fuck, I'm a nerd.

I played online in "free mode" for about 3 hours last night.  Its everything I've ever wanted.   It has the GTA feel with a gameplay crossed between Splinter Cell and Gears Of War.  The realism and attention to detail are amazing.

I agree - BEST GAME EVER!

Just back from the local music store that also sells games...and because they are local no one seems to know that they sell games.  Bonus for me.  Can't wait to get out of work and rock some GTA tonight!

I actually am not on XBox Live yet.  My internet is in a completely different part of the house - no clue how I would get on without having wires everywhere.

A - $$$ on more gaming things?  You don't know my wife.
B - Have a long ass cord running through my house?  You don't know my wife.
C - Hook up an additional modem (IE more fees)...I think you see where I am heading with this...
