If you're referring to QBs, I can name one......  Gus Frerotte.  In 1994, he came in as a rookie drafted in the later rounds and beat out Heath Shuler (who was drafted in the first round) as the Reskins starting QB.

Yes ... I was talking specificaly about QBs.  The difference between college and pros is so far apart for this position that its literally impossible to play the first year let alone start the first game and be successful.

Shuler was also a rookie though, and Frerotte didn't beat him out to start the 94 season anyway. I think CF meant a rookie QB came in and actually beat out a veteran QB (as opposed to being handed the job).

Which veteran QB is up against Henne? If someone tells me that we're considering Beck as a veteran already, I am going to hurl... McCown is a nice journeyman, but not sure I can call him a veteran either.

I see QB as being wide open, and like any position, I hope that Sparano plays the best player possible at each and every position.

Veteran means a guy who isn't in his first season. So despite your hatred of him, Beck fits that description and so does McCown.

Not sure what CF meant, but I did say Shuler was a rookie.  He played so bad in his first few games that the Redskins brass benched him in favor of Frerotte, if I'm not mistaken.

Heath shuler and Gus Frerotte were both rookies in 1994...Heath Shuler was the 3rd over all pick, played in 11 games starting 8,Gus Started 4 games, and played in 4 games...Gus was a 7th round pick....

Even in 1995 they split the starts...Heath had 5,Gus had 11

What a horrible (and inaccurate) thing to say... I don't have personal "feelings" toward Beck...and definitely not "hatred."  Beck's probably a swell guy, kind-hearted and a wonderful dancer. I simply don't expect him to develop into a starting NFL QB. There is a difference between feelings and expectations...and all I have for Beck are expectations.

We also have a different opinion of the term "veteran." You apparently think that if a player's seen the field before for a cup of coffee, he's a veteran, and I see a veteran more as someone who's proven he can play at the NFL level at some point in his career. Beck qualifies for the former, but definitely not the latter...yet.

We have a journeyman (McCown) and two young non-veterans (Beck and Henne) in competition for our QB position this season. As long as the best QB gets put under center, then all my feelings are happy feelings. Wink

1.  It was mini-camp.
2. Even if he turns out to be a stud, no one player is going to "save" this team.

I will save my excitement for real games.

Drew Bledsoe was number 1 overall pick in the draft....
The 2nd overall pick also started 16 games that season.
