Insane hype, history on the line and a seemingly harmless injury during the off-week turns into something much worse.  Huge underdog upsets a favorite everyone considers a lock.

Sounds vaguely familiar.

there have been like 3 horses in the last 5 or so years that have one the first two....but they can never win the 3rd.  i never buy into the horsie hype until i see it happen.

I got your metaphor but I don't recall any "seemingly meaningless injury during the off-week"

Tom Brady was spotted on crutches the week before the Super Bowl.

I was rather upset to net see a Triple Crown winner. Was there eer a reason for the poor showing? The doctors were checking the horse when I left the house.

They did not mention any injury.  They jockey said he realized he didn't have any hose, so he pulled Big Brown up rather than risk injury.  Maybe it was the heat?  Maybe he was just worn out?  Who knows?  A disappointment for sure.

And chalk up Big Brown as the 11th horse since 1978 to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness and have the Triple Crown chatter going.... only to fail to close it out at the Belmont.

My hats off to you Hoodie, ESPN actually had a clip about this yesterday. Good comparison and point, except Big Browns team wasn't bragging they would win, and they weren't inviting other owners to their championship party, and of course Big Brown never went on TV laughing at the other horses.

Um, Big Brown's team wasn't bragging they would win? Where have you been living? Mars?

Only Mister Ed or "Don" from Hot To Trot can do that.
