The Yankees and Brewers are talking deal for Ben Sheets.  Sheets is in the last year of his deal and has all but said the Brewers haven't made an offer...and he wouldn't listen if they did.  He wants to test the FA market and, honestly, he should.  Someone is going to pay this kid.  When healthy he's one of the games best.  Right now he is 9-1 with a 2.59 ERA through 15 starts.  He has two complete games under his belt this season.  Not too shabby.

Sheets would be the poster boy for 'rent a player' - which means that the Brewers won't get a lot for him.  But the Yankees are dangling a couple decently rated single A and one AA for him, and that's more than the Brewers would most likely receive from anyone else unless there is a sign and trade involved.

Excellent.  With the injury to Wang, and with Rasner pitching inconsistent the last couple outings, this would be a great move by New York.   Sheets is an outstanding  pitcher who would fill the void left by Wang.   If this trade is pulled off, this would really help solidfy the Bronx Bombers staff once Hughes gets back from the DL.  Hopefully, New York inks Sheets to a long term deal if this trade happens.
Sidney Ponson is slated to start for the Bombers this week!! Undecided

I think Ponson nets the Yankees 8-10 wins this year.

^^^  I am hoping you are right about Ponson Maine.... as long as he can keep his head straight.    I also heard the Yanks were talking to Cincy about Bronson Arroyo.  Have you heard anything about this Maine?

I have, but I don't see the Yankees making that deal.  The Reds are notorious and wanting too much for too little, hence why Adam Dunn wasn't moved three years ago.  The Reds would be looking for an MLB ready AAA prospect grading out around B+ and a utility player for Bronson.  He's not worth it.

I'd hate to see Sheets go to the Yanks, simply because he'd improve the evil bastards' rotation a lot...

Do you think after yesterday, when Arroyo became the first pitcher in the modern era to give up 11 hits and 10 runs in the first inning, that the Reds' price tag is still really high?

Yes, I do.  The Reds front office...only worse one is the LA Clippers.  Adam Dunn's k/bb ratio is terrible, he's the incredible one trick pony machine.  Bomb or K.  Bomb or K.  And, yet, the price tag on Dunn a couple summers ago was two MLB ready SP, one AAA prospect, two AA prospects and 'players to be named later.'

All for a guy that is a career .247 hitter.  He has 18 home runs this year.  He's also struck out 78 times!  He's on pace to knock on 280 k's.  Pathetic.  1,170 career k's and, yet, the Reds wanted a king's ransom for the guy.

Your Padres made a very nice bid last year for Ken Griff Junior and were turned down flat.  To give you an idea of the strength of that bid, the Yankees would have dealt you Damon and a AAA player for the package SD offered Cincy.

Given the state of the Padres this season, I am glad they didn't mortgage future for a year or two of Griffey. I am enjoying watching some of the young Padres this season, though I don't go into too many games expecting the win like I have in past seasons.

I think Griff would have been the difference in winning the division last season, that non-deal killed your season.  And looking at the way the NL playoffs went, I think that they would have swept round 1 and taken the NLCS in 6.

Nah...our pen choked down the stretch, and Griff wouldn't have helped that. He's also not an every day player any more, and I don't think a part-timer, even one with Griff's pedigree, could have gotten SD deep into the playoffs.

SD wasn't a worthy playoff team last season, and Griffey's power contributions at PETCO would have been fairly limited, imo...

Thanks for the info Maine!!!  I will definetly be holding out hope they can swing the trade for Ben Sheets and ink him to a long term deal.  Cashman will make the right move.
And Stroke....The evil bastards rotation is fine and will be even better come July Wink

Ben Sheets is great when he is healthy.....which is just 50% of the time. Mid-season trade and then collect a draft pick when he leaves? Sure! Sign him to a long term deal? Hell no!

The Yankees need someone. Joba/Pettitte/Mussina is a pretty good 1-2-3, but they have no 4 or 5 and that's what killed them last year. Too many starts for Igawa and other assorted scrubs.
