The way [New Orleans] came on strong at the end of last season....
You mean the way they won 2 of their last 5 games? (Including losing the final 2)
And the 2 games they won: Falcons and Cardinals.
They had 3 half-decent games last year: Panthers, Jaguars and Seahawks.
Playing in a pretty weak divisions helps, but they're not paired with the NFC West this year. That's 3 of their 7 wins right there.
New Orleans are a hard team to figure out. Clearly, they outperformed themselves 2 seasons ago - but wtf happened last year? I saw quite a few of those games and it was UGLY. Their draft consisted pretty much of defensive players, plus they got Randall Gay from the Patsies, Bobby McCray from the Jags and a few more D's on the tail end of their careers...
So they should improve on defense, but unless the offense starts working, they're still screwed.
A big part is going to be admitting that Reggie Bush is not a running back. He's a great slot receiver, though, and the Patsies have shown that with a good quarterback, a star receiver and a solid #2, the slot can really be a difference maker. Seriously, the Saints aren't that far from the Patsies with Drew Brees, Marques Colston and David Patten. Add Reggie Bush as a slot receiver and let Pierre Thomas play running back... that could be a killer O, especially considering that the Saints actually had a very good offensive line last year.
Hmm.. I think I may have just talked myself into the Over ;-)
