This blows. Isaac Hayes, Bernie Mac, Sho'Nuff, and now Gene.

People are dropping like flies.

Holy crap.

Just noticed this on nfl.com.

Wow... that's... wow. Certainly among the handful of most influential people in the NFL in recent history.

I wonder if Ditka and the other old veterans who have been fighting him for compensation are chuckling inside.

This clears one speedbump for a new CBA out of the road...

He didn't know he was sick either. His diagnosis just happened over the weekend apparently.

Can a Mod please change the title to this thread. I clicked on it by accident, and read that he died! I thought it was a thread just discussing him (I haven't looked at any news/ sports sites today, so I was not aware he passed away.)

I just looked at CBS Sportsline, and apparently he was diagnosed on Aug 17th, just a few days after his 63rd bday.

RIP Gene.

More like cheering than chuckling.  Now they'll get the medical treatments they need.

I wonder who will take his place?

Either ex-Dolphins Trace Armstrong or Troy Vincent.

I think that Trace has the best chance. He's a level headed person. Vincent is a nice guy but Trace will probably get the position.

Trace during his playing days with the Dolphins would always stand up to Jimmy Johnson if he felt that a player was being violated.
