NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Vince Young is awaiting an MRI exam on his sprained left knee Tuesday, hours after the Tennessee Titans sought police help in finding the quarterback the team described as "emotionally down."

Young left his home around 7 p.m. Monday without a phone, prompting the Titans to call Nashville police for help. The team got a message to Young through a friend, and the quarterback met with coach Jeff Fisher and police at team headquarters around 11:30 p.m. Police spokesman Don Aaron said Young drove himself home about 30 minutes later.

The story first was reported by WKRN-TV.

"Ultimately, it appears the initial concerns about his emotional state were unfounded," Aaron said Tuesday. "But no one actually knew that until he was spoken to face to face."

Aaron also said Young had an unloaded handgun in the glovebox of his car. Tennessee law permits unloaded firearms in vehicles as long as no ammunition is present.

Young hurt his knee late in Sunday's 17-10 win over Jacksonville and was booed heavily by fans.

"Given the totality of the circumstances, the fact that Young had been emotionally down all day, Coach Fisher contacted the police department and asked for help in finding him to check on his emotional well-being," Aaron said.

The Titans released a statement Tuesday, explaining their part in the incident.

"Last night, we received a call from people that are closest to Vince informing us that he had left his house in a state of mind that had them concerned; and that he was unreachable, having left his cell phone at the house," the statement read. "Not having all the facts available to us and approaching the matter prudently, we contacted Metro Police to make them aware of the situation and asked for their assistance in locating Vince. He was located at a friend’s house, where we made contact with him. He then came to the practice facility where it was determined that those initial concerns by his friends and family were unfounded and he returned home without incident."

The Titans said people close to Young called the team Monday night, concerned about his state of mind when he left his home.

"He was located at a friend's house, where we made contact with him. He then came to the practice facility where it was determined that those initial concerns by his friends and family were unfounded, and he returned home without incident," the Titans said in a statement.

Young's MRI exam was rescheduled for Tuesday from Monday with no explanation.

I mean...I always knew he was a total bum - but maybe he's just now coming to grips with reality that he's a sub-par NFL QB?

Doesn't the article make it clear that such concerns were unfounded?

This is like reading an article saying that Philip Rivers was mistaken for a wanted sexual offender and making a post entitled, "Philip Rivers... rapist?"

Dan, the article sure makes it sound like Vince Young was under a de facto suicide watch. Sure, that turned out to be unwarranted, but the story here is that the people around Vince are concerned enough about his mental state to call the cops on him if he doesn't pick up his phone (or leaves it behind). That's not exactly reassuring.

Yes - I apologize profusely - a canned statement from a team official has completely convinced me that this story is complete and total bullshit (that is sarcasm, folks). You would make a great defense attorney for the Titans - basically repeating what was written and then stumbling through a poor excuse of an analogy. (Here's a hint: make an analogy derived from completely separate subject matter to get your point across about the original subject. It's highly effective).

Back to the story - what is a over-hyped bum of a starting NFL QB doing with an unloaded weapon in the glove compartment of his vehicle? (Oh yes, state law allows it as I'm sure you're about to annoyingly point out like a 19-year old Political Science major who fights for pot to be legal and always looks to poke any holes in any possible argument - but don't even think about giving me the "it's because he's famous and it's for his protection" nonsense. He's ridiculously overpaid and rich - hire a 24-hour bodyguard to drive your rich ass around and protect your ass when you go to those dive strip clubs after being benched because you're a freaking hack).

I'm sorry, does the word "unfounded" not exist in your dictionary?  Does it mean something totally different, like maybe "justified" or "warranted"?

Since you apparently think rape is somehow not a "completely separate subject matter" from suicide (?), let's try bowling.  Suppose that there was an article containing a rumor that Kathie Lee Gifford had bowled ten consecutive 300 games, but the same news source had contacted the alley where it was supposed to have taken place and discovered that the rumor was unfounded.  Would you then post a thread entitled, "WTF - Kathie Lee Gifford is incredibly good bowler?"

Perhaps he was going to pistol whip himself to death!

I was talking to a good friend tonight who happens to be a devout Texas A&M Aggie. I asked him what he thought about the whole Vince Young "mental state" situation, and he summed things up fairly well when he said...

"No surprise...there's a lot of shame in being a Longhorn"

The local sports anchor on channel 5 tonight touched on Vince's "ugly moods" on the sideline after he has thrown a pick, how he allegecly wanted to "quit football" after his rookie year, and suggested we are starting to see a pattern with Vince.he also said, and I quote,"My suggestion for the Titans would be when they fit him for a knee brace next week why not also fit him for some 'big boy' pants in the hope he'll grow into them by gametime."
I could not believe he said that on the air.I have several friends that were at the game Sunday and they said they had never seen anyone booed as bad as Vince Young.I guess the fans were merciless. My take is that V.Y. gets paid alot of jack to be able to take those boos and he needs to man-up.

Wow, are people coming around to my way of thinking? I said VY never deserved rookie of the year and that he would never be a top tier QB in this league.

I saw an interview with him a while back where he talked about quitting football. This may be another Ricky Williams style explosion at some point.

Apparently, listening to sports radio last night and this morning, Vince has a very thin skin and is having a hard time not succeeding - think about it. He was a high draft pick, the big man at Texas, god-like in high school and probably worshiped in Pop Warner.

There is a lot of questioning of he can emotionally handle being an NFL QB

Dear Vince Young,

I hope that you are speaking with professionals who will help you sort things out.
Get well soon.

Hey!  That type of class and dignity has NO place on a football fan forum!

Anyone else having Kordell Stewart flashbacks?
