After that last loss to Vandy, I think the writing is on the wall for Spurrier and South Carolina. I think he knows he's just not going to win there, and is planning his exit. Unless we pull off a miracle and defeat Georgia this weekend, I have no doubt that Spurrier will be gone by Christmas...

Lou Holtz, check.
Steve Spurrier, check.

National respect and a winning culture... nope.

I work in Columbia, and live in Sumter now. Its an hour drive one way. On the way back, the only thing I can find on the radio between 7 and 8 is Gamecock crap on EVERY station.

With that said, I agree

It's odd. The team has a huge amount of boosters and fans. I think everyone born in South Carolina is either a USC or Clemson fan.  You'd think one of em could be a national powerhouse.

If I were USC, I'd look to move out of the SEC. The Gamecocks have great starters, but in the SEC that's not enough. They could probably win it all in another conference.

The SEC is like every other conference, it has its haves and have-nots.  South Carolina has long been a have not.

I think your expectations of USCe are too great. Look, South Carolina is a nice school but they will never be able to compete with the Bulldogs, Gators, and the volunteers on an annual basis. Spurrier is a great college coach, but the one thing he isn't is a great recruiter. The one thing you need to be in today's college football is a tireless, relentless recruiter. Spurrier has let some of the top talent get out of SC.

AJ Green was one of the top 5 WR in the nation last season in high school out of Summerville,SC...... he'll be suiting up in a bulldog uniform today. Junior CB Prince Miller out of Duncan , SC will be starting for the bulldogs as well, he only won 4 stare championships in high school. C.J. Byrd starting strong safety was the SC high school player of the year as a SR and he will be in a bulldog uniform today.

Carlos Dunlap of the florida gators was the top DE prospect in the country and spurrier couldn't reel him in. It's hard to compete in the SEC when you can't even convince the top players in state to stay home. That was one of the criticism's of spurrier at florida, Bobby bowden was always winning those head to head recruiting battles at the end. Since  Urban Meyer has arrived, the gators are winning those battles.

Go look at what Bucth Davis is doing at Chapel, hill. I told everyone the day he was hired he would have UNC going in the right direction. Davis will not be outworked on the recruiting trail and he's convincing the top players in state to stay home. The lack of success by spurrier can only be pinned on one man, himself.

It's not going to get any easier Kentucky  is doing better and Bobby Johnson at Vandy gets the most out of his talent.  It's gonna be a long year for the ole coach, but i hope he has one of those Steve Spurrier specials cooked up for the poodles today. I expect spurrier to bring out the whole arsenal today. He hates georgia and this would kill their season if they lossed to USCe today.

^^^

I didn't know that Spurrier had recruiting troubles.  I guess after that highly-ranked class two years ago, I thought we'd be on the up and up.  It just hasn't been so.  I did question the fact that Spurrier couldn't reel in AJ Green.  I'd seen him play at summerville, and my God, what an athlete the kid was.  Ah well, who knows, maybe we'll pull off some magic later this season.
