They should get fined.  What about the rooney rule.

I believe that the Rooney rule dies two deaths in this one... I know that when an NFL team is promoting a minority to the HC position already, the rule doesn't apply. I also believe that when an NFL team is promoting an interim HC to full-time HC status, they are not required to interview anyone else either. I'm not 100% on the second part (maybe 99%), but the first one kills it anyway.

Just another excuse to stiff other qualified minorities.

Yeah, because it has to be that, rather than just a team hiring the right coach.

It is really stupid though.  And they can't just promote an interim hc to full time because they wouldn't let the rams do it with haslett.  The purpose of the rooney rule is to let minorities get practice interviewing or some bullshit like that, so it shouldn't matter if the coach is a minority.

You may think it is stupid, Tepop, but they don't have to interview anyone else if they don't want to. The underlying principle of the rooney rule isn't to get african american coaches more interview practice, it is to get more african americans to have head coaching opportunities in the NFL.

I just wish the NFL would hurry up and ratify the Tuiasosopo Rule, so more hard working Hawaiian coaches can get the opportunities they so richly deserve.

Amen to that but get in line.  The Tatupu rule for Samoan players and coaches should come first.

They have interviewed a minority coach. His name is "Mike Singletary" and he's even gotten the interim position and is looking like the best candidate to win the job right now.

And now it's official: Singletary has signed a 4-year contract to be the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

Considering he now has hiring and firing rights over his assistants, what happens to Martz?

Maybe Broncos will come calling.  I'd be surprised if someone doesn't.  I think you should only get two shots at HC in a ten year period.  No more Norv or Wade or Jauron when coaches like Tomlin, Smith, and Sparano deserve a shot.

The Niners made a great move by keeping Mike Singeltary as their Head Coach... I think he has already started to move San Fran in the right direction!!

Also, I ALWAYS look forward to Mike's post game comments! .... Good Stuff!  Wink

Mike Martz will be jobless real soon.

He already is:

The Rocky Mountain News (Denver) is reporting that the Browns are going to interview Eric Mangini before the week is out.  If this happens, I can see him having Romeo Crennel as his D Coordinator.

Additionally, the 49ers have fired offensive coordinator Mike Martz.
