Are you a Real, Pro-America, American?

Lately, there have been a few recurring incidents of Republicans claiming that their supporters are somehow more "Pro-American" or more "real" Americans than their opposition.  The Daily Show had a really good show about this topic on Monday (link).

Unmentioned in the Daily Show is Rep. Robin Hayes' recent remarks that "liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and achieve and believe in God," which is also pretty reprehensible, coming from a member of Congress.

But the most disturbing part of all of it, in my opinion, were the remarks of Rep. Michelle Bachmann.  She openly called for the media to perform a McCarthy-style investigation into which members of Congress are anti-America:

This is just sickening.  There is a drastic difference between disagreeing with someone's policies and suggesting that they be investigated for being anti-American.  Suggestions like that bring back visions of one of the worst periods in our nation's history.

There has been a lot of discussion about whether or not there will be violence if Obama somehow loses this election, but at the rate we are going, I am beginning to believe that there will be violence either way.  People are intentionally being worked into a froth at the thought of terrorist, socialist, anti-American Democrats winning the election.  I would not be surprised to see an event like Oklahoma City reoccur (and this is to say nothing of the rather obvious elephant in the room: assassination).

The sattirical Daily Show, which makes no qualms about openly and admittedly shedding truth and context in favor of laughs, had a really good show about this topic?  I missed it.  Was that before or after Saturday Night Live had "a really good show" about the Presidential debates?  Oh well, I'm sure South Park will have a really good show about it soon enough.

I think "hate" is a bit too strong.  "Despise" would probably be more accurate.

I'm wondering if Bachmann purposely made an outlandish statement to work people into a froth, or, if the froth she induced was just an innocent side affect of her being a nutjob?

Unfortunatly you are correct. Police everywhere are quietly preparing for what might be one of our country's worst nights ever if Obama does not win.  People are seeing him as something much different then he actually is. The completely anti authority, the person who will correct everything that has occured to them.  They believe all the negatives will magically dissapear . All will prosper.  (shaking my head) .  I think he's the better choice at this point but not by a big Margin. However should Obama loose the world as we know it might be a different place on Nov 5th.  Hopefully we won't have to find out.

On the flip side the secirity needs to be doubled and tripled around Obama when he wins. Kooks on both sides of this ballgame.

Politics has become a Yankees/Red Sox rivalry.  We're taught to hate the other side, and that just isn't healthy for all of us.  We have to work together to accomplish our common goals, but we can still fight about the stuff we don't agree on.

If we keep this up, we'll never get anything done.  Maybe we should just draw a line down the country and split into two groups.

Here's a good example...  you said, and I quote, "...the show is made up..."  It's right there for everyone to see. 

At this point the audience laughs as Jon Stewarts gives them that cheesey evil grin. 

Then, someone a bit too willing to believe the half quote will go on a website and proclaim that Buddhagirl said the Daily show is made up.

In Stewart's own words, "People!  People!  We make it up!"

As always it will be the extremist and  people taking advantage of the situation that starts any trouble come election time. No one has as much respect for john McCain then me. And I agree he has crossed Party Lines before and I respect that. But he really made a Boo Boo when he listened to his PR staff and grabbed Palin for his running mate. Maybe he could have made Hillary cross Party Lines?

McCain use to cross party lines. The man has towed the line over the last few years in order to win the party nomination.

That said I respect the guy. I just don't think he is right for our current economic situation and I have always disagreed with the war in Iraq.

I don't necessarily want someone who doesn't agree with their party.  I support Obama because I agree with him on the vast majority of issues.  But I think that I especially agree with what he says in regards to abortion.  Rather than squabble about the legality of it to no end, why don't we work together to reduce the number of abortions wanted? 

...Stuff like that.
