In Dave's prediction thread, a couple people stated that Limbaugh and Hannity would be out of a job if Obama is elected. I'm just curious why you say that, and why you would want that to happen. Could you explain why you feel that way?

"Out" of a job?  They'd be working overtime every day!  If they had plenty to talk about when GOPers controlled every level of the gov't, they will not be able to STOP talking when the hated liberals take over.

^^^

I'm not the one who said it. I started this thread to ask the people who did say it why they said it.

An Obama admin will hurt the Daily Show and help Rush, a McCain admin will hurt Rush but help the Daily show but both will keep marching on.

The Daily Show won't change, I don't think.  It's a comedy show that (while definitely from a liberal point of view) makes fun of politics.  They don't really offer analysis on stuff.  They make fun of Dems on that show on a daily basis, too.

The first 4 years of the show happened under Clinton, too.  And it's not just about the President.  Actually, it's usually not about the president.  There are political kooks on both sides of the spectrum to laugh at.  They'll be fine.

Rush, Hannity, Beck, etc -- they'll do better with Obama as President.  They are complainers, by nature (I don't mean that in a bad way -- Olberman is the same.)  They thrive in bitching about the state.  It's harder to do that effectively when your party is in charge.  With Obama making the decisions, they'll be more popular than ever.

But, but, but ... the Daily Show is balanced!  It pokes fun at both sides equally ... doesn't it?

If you did, then I am. I don't remember who posted it. I just remember there were 2 maybe 3 people who had that opinion.

The Daily Show is not balanced, but it does poke fun at whoever is there.  It just so happens that the GOP has been in power for a while.  But they make fun of Democrats on pretty much every show.  A lot of it is just reporting the news in a silly manner.  They made a ton of fun of Bill Clinton back in the day, made fun of Hillary and Obama a lot during their nomination process.

My statement was made quite tongue-in-cheek.

You answered your own question about how they would lose their job ... the Fairness Doctrine ... so I'm assuming you are looking for why anyone would want that?  I can't se why anyone wants to quiet free speech as well free enterprise but I'm surprised no one has attempted to answer.

I'm kinda confused about what this thread is asking.  Who is saying that Obama in office will silence Rush, etc?  It seems the opposite to me.  Also, who's suggesting we quiet free speech?

I'd love to see Rush off the air, not because he gets kicked off, but because people see him as a radical and brings nothing to the table.  I love a good intelligent debate, but I think that Rush provides no value and is simply a spin machine.

There is one conservative woman who goes on Hardball that I like.  I don't remember her name.  She and I don't disagree, but she's not nasty.  I don't feel that she's trying to spin every little fact, and admits when something is good or bad about her own party.  Those are the kind of people that I like to listen to.
